Sperm donation ethics

Here's an unusual problem that I thought I'd pose to the community:

Assume that overpopulation is the greatest problem our species currently faces (not intending to debate this).

If infertile couples have access to and are willing to use fertility clinics, then is it unethical for a donor to make donations yet disagree with overpopulation?

Yup. Enabling that which you don't agree with would be a hypocritical thing to do.

I thought this would be a thread on proper ethics for going to donate sperm.

Like wipe the lube and spunk mix off your hands before opening the door to give your cup of man love to the nurse.

Also, while donating don't howl loudly while cumming to the 1980's porno they give you for spanking.

It is ok to ask a fine nurse for spanking assistance at the donation center.

..... but it can be rationalized!

When you think about sperm, you can't help but notice that most of it goes to waste (remains un-used).

The infertile couple and the donor both intend to use the sperm productively.

Since both parties have put some actual thought into the process the possibility exits that they are at least slightly more intelligent than the average sperm waster out there.

........ think about it, whose children are going to thrive and produce more of there kind?

Will it be the hypothetical children of the slightly more thoughtful, intelligent donor/infertile couple or the hypothetical children of all that wasted sperm that never made the hook-up?

See, in my opinion it would be unethical for the sperm donor not to make the donation as it would negatively affect the quality of the overpopulation.

Shit, I thought this thread might go that direction.

Here is a rationalization:

Couples wishing to use the service of a fertility clinic are going have a child. The end result is the same whether I donate or not. Are there any holes in that argument?

Breeding is one of the most serious things a human can do, it's probably best to save it for your favorite female. Just like breeding the weeds; you don't want to throw your pollen on fugly ditch weed, you want the female with the prettiest flowers.

This was kind of my thought too.

On the other hand, it might not be a bad reproductive strategy if you only want to make sure your genes advance - no investment in parental care, but your genetics survive. Hopefully.

It's a business. Businesses usually care about the bottom line not whether or not their activity is threatening the species. There is a long list of things that shouldn't be happening.

Diversity is more important than beauty. What if that fugly ditch weed carries genes that enable it to survive the coming climate change? Keep in mind donors don't actually have to try and insert their unaroused selves into an ugly woman.

All life's primary goal is to reproduce and perpetuate as a species. I do not think sperm banks violate any overpopulation moral code. Overpopulation's problems stem from the uneducated poor masses for the most part. The children resulting from sperm banks for the most part do not represent that demographic. I think those two are not linked issues. From a religious or other moral standpoint, I can see that. From the strictly the overpopulation view, no.
