Speed Controler

Looking for a speed controler for my vortex.
Wondering where the best place to get one is. Are they sold at like a lowes or HD? Hardware store? Ebay or online best spot to pick one up?
Is there a DYK link for one of these that im missing?
I saw one for a temp speed controler but i dont need it to run based on temp, im just trying to turn down the volume and power on my blower.
thanks

the ones used for drills are fine too, they cost like 10 bucks at the electric supply.. do not use the ones for fans/lights from homedepot (aka "dimmers")..

20 bucks is a good deal for those.

Best bang for the buck is the GroZone temp-2v, variable speed controller (speeds fans up and slows down according to temps you set) and has separate day/night programs, for just $109! I'm replacing my $300 Phason with one of these this week.

Why not? I am using one, do I need to worry and why?

Honestly I think they are fine, as long as your speed controller has a grounding. Possibly you loose a little efficiency but I dont think theres any major concerns. Been using 2 of them on various duct boosters and centrifugal fans for a while.

Been using mine for 4 years now on the same eco-plus 6in exhaust fan with no issues. I dont get any of the humming/vibrating some mention getting with other types of speed controls either.

You just wanna make sure it's the heavier duty speed control. I picked mine up at lowes. it's a Lutron 5a made for exhaust fans. They sell a 1.5a, and 5a.. the 1.5a is for ceiling fans, while the 5a said it's for industiral exhaust fans..Cost me $17 for the controller, extension cord, and gang box. controller itself was $9 and some change

Chill. I'm going to look into these. I've been using Speedster controllers plugged into Green Air climate controllers, but these sound a hell of a lot more useful.

FYI to splice that thick wire slice it length wise dont bother going about it like regular guaged wire. 2 length wise slits on opposite ends and it peels right apart.

The cords cost $25 stripped at HD plus $8 for a female socket and time to fuck around connecting the shit or you can get 2 2ft cords at walmart for $2 a pack and use $0.10 wirenuts, your choice. I couldnt figure it out and ended up going the expensive route which is more messy anyways, after I bought it the guy showed me how to strip that stuff properly

Most speed controllers do not put out a constant waveform of power. The labels usually say not to use them with blowers. I did for a while, but moved it when my speed controller had a better place to go (moved it off my blower to my 6" centrifugal fan). Apparently using them can shorten the life of a blower - since I only paid $50 for my blower I was not overly concerned, but it's something to watch out for. I'm sure people use them all the time, but it wouldn't be on the label if someone didn't have issues :)
