Space Heater Throwing off Photoperiod

My flower room drops down to 50 degrees F when the lights go off which requires me to use a space heater. The heater does have a red glow which I am concerned will throw off the photoperiod and cause plants stress.

Does a little bit of light really cause that much stress to the plants? It seems that there is alot of debate still going on with some saying its not a big issue and others saying it is. Any help appreciated.

yes it does. Growers will tape over anything that has a red light during the night cycle, including the switches on power strips, light/CO2 controllers (Sentinel controllers are notorious).

No reason to risk a hermaphrodite. I would suspend a big piece of foil infront of the heater to cover the red glow.

Yup

When I grew at home, that was a an issue for me.

I got a ceramic heater, and disconnected the red led light

The red glow will most likely mess them up, try and get a different type of heater

i anticipate the same problem. i was wondering what is the most heat producing lightbulb out there? i was thinking of isolating the bulb near the intake thus sucking hot air into the room when nessasary.

what about the moon?? does that not put out more light than a red light on a power strip? lol

50 F really isnt that low

that is definitely on the low end

If your room seals at all, can you run a CO2 generator? Lots of cheap heat and added CO2 out of it!

Can you intake from another warmer part of your house? I was pretty successful dragging air in from my bathroom, but the humidity after a shower killed that shit

Go to Walmart, get the cheapest heater they have, if the coils are hidden they probably wont glow. I had one from there that was like 20 bucks, was about 8 inches in height, and kep my little 7x7 room toasty warm. Was electric coil and fan style, but no red glow

He's not talking about the red LED light on the heater, I don't think. He's talking about the heater coils themselves...
Man I think you should just put the heater wherever your intake is if possible. This is what I do, and it works well.

What kind of outside temps are you dealing with where you are located. It is very cold here during the winter.

Yes I am talking about the coils although the on/off lights on the heaters can cause issues too so I will definately cover if it has one. My intake is an unheated storage room. Running an intake from the heated area of the house would be difficult due to the layout.

I am thinking about the electrical costs involved with running the heater for such long periods. Most are 1500 watts minimum and it may be better for me to add a room and use the heat from there to heat my main room. I mean another 1000 watt and a 600 would give me enough heat and use the same power. Any ideas?

I recently dealt with the same problem. I ended up buying a cheap ceramic heater from walmart. Their smallest one was 22$ before tax. It has a red led that I have taped over, but the ceramic heating element doesn't have any glow. I have a well sealed 15 X 9 room and am able to hold temps with the heater set very near it's lowest setting. The heater is fan forced but it's fan is pretty wimpy and I supplement it with my room fan to get a good circulation about the room.
