Sowing seeds directly into the ground

I would like to know if i planted a whole bunch seeds directly into the ground outside; how likely for would most of the seeds survive? I may or may not germinate then using the paper towel method first. The ground is ok all the plants are lush green in this area. I'm in the process of relocating and i picked out a few nice plots (These new spots are guerrilla style locations, that are moderately accessible)very far away from my original plot so i don't have all my eggs in one basket. But due to my current living situation im unable to start anything up inside at the moment. I also don't want to waste the seeds by just throwing them in the ground and hoping for the best. Has anyone had any success and or tips they could share with me. The thing is; in my mind it shouldn't be that difficult because before all of this modern lighting and such people grew all sorts of plants outside without starting them inside first lol.

Sound like there would be lots of casualties, Whats your low for temps , How will you keep them from getting eatin by critters and bugs.. Not saying it wouldn't work I have found babies in the wild and have seen them pop up in my yard and lots of friends..

You can by sent for bear, Bob cat and Mt lion to help detour the deer and maybe the rabbits

Good Luck

I've never had much luck with trying to germinate seeds directly in the ground...but if the Ganja God smiles down on you with the ideal range of temps, rainfall and lack of buds and animals that kill seedlings then you may get some to germinate and grow.

To improve you chances it's best to prepare the ground first by digging it up to loosen it and adding soil conditioners like gravel, sand, vermiculite etc to aid drainage, form the beds into raised mounds..,,and then I'd suggest adding organic fertilizers like compost, aged manures and other organic additives, then water the plots, wait a few weeks then plant the seeds. Plant in moist, loose soil about an inch deep in grooves then lightly sprinkle soil over the seeds then gently water them in. If hot dry weather occurs then make sure that the soil does not dry out.....but even if most things go your way, many won't make it. With viable seeds I'd soak them in wet tissues in a sealed container for 36 hours then plant them out in the plots. I hope you have plenty of seeds to play, cos you will be get lots of losses...if you only have a few seeds then definitely start them in small pots and replant into the plots where they are a few weeks old and you will have very low losses.

I'd also suggest using some type of mesh to protect the seedlings as they emerge

This is the way it was done in my younger days :) Back then I always had baggies full of seed lol

It will work fine some casualties to be expected, cover them with a fine mulch to keep the birds from getting them .

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated

Don't waste your seeds or your time. Starting them directly in the ground outdoors is too harsh for little sprouts. Marijuana is very weak when young unlike other plants. You need to germ them and grow them inside a house or in a greenhouse inside small pots or beer cups.

If you really have to do this...wait until temperatures are in the 80s, put fresh seed starting mix into the center of your hole, water it with a 2% hydrogen peroxide solution and then drop your seeds in and hope for the best. Unless you have hundreds, or thousands, of seeds to play with, I wouldn't do this. I did once drop about a hundred seeds into fresh potting mix outdoors at a guerilla spot and I ended up with WAY too many sprouts ^_^ I had to thin them out, big time!

No problem, i have a spot where seeds start themself from dead females. Put seeds in water 2 days max then trow them out if temps are right to grow.

Here's some useful information, unlike most of the other posts, wait until night time soil temps are 55-60 degrees before planting. To increase your germination rates you could loosen the soil, planting 2-3 seeds a hole, then cover them with dead grass or old leaves. You can cover them with plastic but take it off once the seeds sprout.

I start tomato seeds outdoors in my veggie gardens with no problems and those seeds are way smaller and weaker, for the lack of a better term, than mj seeds.

Try getting clear plastic drink cups, like the red solo cups only clear. Take a hot spike and melt a hole in the bottom of each one, about 3/8 to 1/2 inch diameter. Dig hole and plant seed, water and cover with cup. Place a small rock on top to keep it in place, and also provide shade during the middle of the day. Dont push cup down into soil, you want there to be some airflow from bottom of cup, out the top. Come back in 2 weeks to remove cups....
