Soundproofing Ideas

I need to soundproof a wall that divides two apartments. It has to be something I can carry in unnoticed or as close as possible. Insulation would not work as its too bulky.

I was thinking about buying several 4 by 8 sheets of that foam. Think its an R5 but not sure if that is relevant to sound. Its about an inch thick and I plan on cutting it into one foot squares and taking them inside in a box or duffel. Then just glue them to the wall. Any better ideas appreciated.

The 5 gallon pail of that stuff will do the job VERY well. It will do 45 ft of 8'-ceiling walls, to 36.5' of 10'-ceiling walls. You would apply to your existing drywall, and then put another piece of drywall (or any flat material you can acquire in your ceiling-height) over it. It will reduce the noise to a point where it's not a problem, and the installation isn't noisy either. Shit's called Green Glue, after all.

a roll of insulation will fit in to a large laundry bag or just wrap in a sheet.

if your set on foam sheets, you can cut them up in 2 x 4 squares and bring them in a bike box.
