Mr. Nice - SHIT pulled after 62 days flower. This girl went through hell and still came out smelling like a rose. A nice long flush made her easy to trim as most of the leaf just fell off. I'll be picking up another pack of there while I still can. Very easy to grow, very nice high, good all around weed.

Great work as per the usual Hitman...it seems to me that the more experienced growers are really experimenting with the flushing to a point of near nutrient deprivation. I'm curious to hear how you flush your girls? Just run a good amount of fresh water through the soil a few times in the week or two leading to harvest? And I presume it has a big effect on the taste in the end. Also, Crazy Composer reported that after a good amount of flushing he notices a decrease in the pungent smell emanating from his ladies...how was yours?

Bodhi, you are spot on :tup: I have been comparing notes with CC on flushing and/or lower PPM throughout the grow cycle. I've gone from a 3 day flush to a 7-10 day flush. I use strait RO water for the first 3 days, then add Final Flush (I think it works better than Clearex)for the next week. The smoothness of the smoke is night and day compared to the short flush plants. It also has resulted in a decrease in the curing time, really requiring no more than a week in the jar to reach their peek. I think the loss of smell that CC talks about could be strain dependant. As I've had a few girls that have had a reverse effect, my Willie 'D' (new thread comming soon) stinks to high heaven, and before she really only smelled when brushed up against.

I think you're right about the smell effect being strain dependant, but not that some strains will stink more with a full flush. More like, some strains hold onto certain elements more than other strains, so it just takes longer to achieve the decreased smell goal. You know how stinky that ak was, we got that girl to smell 1/4 of what you smelled in your gifts, because we realized that she held much more of the immobile elements in her flesh than did the kush or other strains we were growing at the time.

I think that you'd get the results you wanted if you were to use a super light flowering solution (trace amounts) for the first 2 weeks of the flush, then straight after that. This is because hydro can be controlled so perfectly that one second there can be 1000ppm in the tank, then after a tank change you can have totally fresh water - to begin the flush... BUT, some immobile elements seem to need other elements present in order to be used effeciently by the plant - get me? That's why - in soiless mixes that we use - we will feed straight water to the medium, but with the understanding that there's some leftover in the medium that will be reconstituted by the fresh water... In hydro you would need to recreate this situation with trace amounts of your elements - TRACE. And when the ppm shows that the plant has eaten a little of that TRACE amount, then I would flush the tank and offer a fresh solution of TRACE amounts until the plant gradually and evenly turns a light green. Your plants show sure signs of sudden nute stoppage, because they're green in the centers, but lighter toward the leaf tips. A gradual step down will probably give you that control you want.

I liken it to a human going on a diet. If you suddenly stop eating, you will lose weight unhealthily. But, if you watch what you eat, and eat TRACE amounts of what you would normally eat, you will eventually size down to the new level of nutrient intake, in a much more healthy manner than sudden starvation
