Solar powered water pump?

It's safest for us to visit one of our sites at night and we generally fill a reservoir with river water at night and return during the days to dole out water to our five plants. Does anyone have experience using a solar powered water pump that can be set to dispense water for a few minutes every day? I'd love to hear a success story - it sounds do-able to me and would virtually eliminate daytime visits.

Grundfos sqf 6-2 flex pump, Control box, 175w 48v Panel. Somewhat pricey but really nice and trouble free for the last three years. Overkill for most. Maybe an RV style 12volt pump with a smallish panel? Pretty sure there are some threads on this subject too.NS

Thanks NS. I'll do a search. I forgot to mention that I am close to a path so I need a very quiet system too just in case it goes off during the day.

I just installed some landscape tubing from a stream to my spots with a 12v dc bilge pump. I Made a filter with a 20 oz soda bottle and drilled holes equally around it. Made a hole in the lid and stuff the tubing thru. I tied a nylon filter sock to the end and stuffed it in the bottle. i buried the pipe and pump. I have a car battery that i connect to pump. you can get a few hours of continuous pumping, but not reccomended for the pumps sake. I have a 15 watt solar panel and a charge controller, located else where. I just move the battery to the pump to use and then put on the charger until needed again. the whole setup ran me about $250. Harbor freight has the panel and controller and pump ;)

i'm pushing water about 100 meters @ 3gpm. I wouldn't use those pumps in the link above.

I dont see why they shouldnt be used mr wabbit,
do you have a reason , cause i can tell you and show you how good they work ..
id be suspicious of the very cheap item quite frankly ,
i dont mind spending a couple of bux to grow cannabis each to their own i guess ...

Also ck out "Rule" pumps. 12 and 24 Volt bilge pumps (if yr not pumping to a height over 3M) and small pressure pumps 1000 to 2000 lph.

the unbelievably smallest of these Rule pres pumps (Australian $84) will work to a height of 20 feet directly off 30 Watt panel. eyeball them at a ships chandlery (boat shop).

PS: you can make a filter by wrapping layers of shade cloth around the end you put in the water.
