I have no doubt that a magnifying glass,broken bottle,eyeglass lens,piece of ice can start a spark,and for sakes sake I just went outside and sparked a bowl with my loupe,takes a minute and it lights it,as an emegency it would work,why anyone would regularly do it is beyond me.lighters so much ez'er.SuperNuck said:

I've never done this but I completely understand the reasoning and would like to try it sometime. I think what will happen sooner though is I'll get either a glass rod and a butane torch or a phedor for a clean light. I can only imagine how some Sour Diesel on a shiny clean glass piece lit with a magnifying glass would taste. Definitely something on my list of things to do.

its not my everyday way to smoke but when the suns out. and if u have somewhere u can sit in the sun with your bong. its the way to go. the glass rod sounds cool. ill try it out sometime soon. but u still need a rod and a torch. solar hits just a magnifying glass.

You cant use a loupe to do solar hits "properly." Like you said, for emergencies, it would work. However it is slow and has a small focal area.
What i use for soalr hits is a large lense that is slightly larger than a cd.
It focuses more light than a smaller lense, like a jeweler's loop for example.
Maybe you can give it a new appraisal after you have done it the "proper" way.
Notice that you are the only one here who doesnt like the idea.....

Oh,now I did it wrong!!Fellas,calm the hell down,I just took a bigger mag out and fired my morning bowl,it works,like I said before.Any better than my butane lighter,NO..any easier than my butane lighter,NO..any taste diference between that and my lighter,NO..

He's not the only one that finds it a little strange sparking a bowl with a magnifying glass,he was just the only one to comment.Not a very well expressed or thought out comment,I don't think you're tards just funny stoners.Would I laugh if I came before someone out in the woods sparking a bowl with our yellow sun?Hysterically probably.I spark my bong with the lightest touch of flame,the lung action sparks the burning erbal without any butane taste to me.
I don't find it that fascinating either. Maybe do it once for the novelty, but for practicality purposes, I'll stick with my lighter. Out of all the crap I do to my body, it isn't going to be butane that does me in.

yes lighters are great. they work wonders but this was really about giving solars a try. yes its not the most convient method of smoking but there really is a taste difference. same with matches. they are nice but u can taste the wood when u smoke using them. all im saying is on a nice sunny day. solar hits are always a good idea.
