What would be he easiest way test the PH of my soil and what is the optimum PH leval for growth for plants that are 2 weeks old?

With acidic soil like promix you want 2 tbls dolomite lime per gallon soil mix,something like ocean forest one tbls will do.Thats the optimum way to control your soil ph,do this and testing becomes unnecessary.
1. Take the plant out of the pot. Scrape 1/4 cup of this soil mix off the rootball carefully. Mix with 1/4 cup distilled water. Stir. Wait 30 minutes. Test slurry ph. You might have to add some soil mix back to the pots that were tested.
2. Virginia Tech pour through method (Hokies remembered ): This is much easier than the 1st way. After you have watered/fertilized the pots well. Wait 30 minutes. Apply a small amount of distilled water to the pots surface till only 1 or 2 ounces of runoff comes out the bottom. Catch this on something like a saucer. Test this ph. If you can tilt the pot after watering and waiting 30 minutes and get a runoff, you can test that liquid instead.
A ph meter that can be calibrated and test liquids is the best tool you can own. If you can't afford one now, get some ph test strips from the aqaurium section of a petstore or brew your own beer/wine store. Ph probes you just jam in the soil mix should be avoided. Ph range 4-7 is okay for the test strips. Better to get a narrow range close to what your aiming for.
If your soil mix is peatmoss, perlite, vermiculite, bark, etc... your really soilless. Optimum ph is about 5.6 to 6.2 If your mix is truly soil like outdoors containing clay, etc.. optimum ph is about 6 to 6.5
Adjusting your fertilizer water after mixing prevents drastic ph shifts in your potting mix.
pH affects plant growth and nutrient availability. pH can affect the availability of nutrients. pH can affect the absorption of nutrients by plant roots pH values above 7.5 cause iron, manganese, copper, zinc and boron ions to be less available to plants. pH values below 6 cause the solubility of phosphoric acid, calcium and magnesium to drop. pH values between 3 and 5 and temperatures above 26 degrees Celsius encourage the development of fungal diseases.
