How would I treat this...

Scrap the idea and go with Promix HP..... hp means it has lots of perlite....peat and the right amount of lime.....

and its premixed...

Its what I use....

The peat and perlite mix is close enough and I mix it myself because I want the peat to buffer my 8.3 PH water, which it does bringing it down to 6.4 PH, meaning no lime needed for PH stabilization. Calcium and magnesium being added from a different source. However I agree that the way I use it it is a soiless mixture.

Back in the day, we used equal parts of manure, perlite, sand and mixed in mushroom compost.

Worked great and could use supplemental veg and bloom (in water)....cheap easy mix.

I have found that using promix HP with added lime and added perlite (30-50%) is the way to go. I've tried it straight out of the bag, added EWC, organic amendments and I have got the best results with using GH micro/bloom 6/9 - that's just my 2c - after many different runs with promix.
However just get coco - it's so much better easier to flush root growth is insane, all around a better medium!
But if you do run promix - add a lot of perlite and it's also good idea to go from solo cup to 1 gal then up to your pot you will finish in (2,3,5,7 etc)

Ahhh, and there lies my problem...constantly have deficiency issues, pulling my hair out constantly.

I'm using GH also, but thought as a 2 part you run 8/16 mix...I've got a 75 plant grow crapping the bed right now :(

Compared to peat moss and yes coco has a potassium and calcium issue often causing a delay in uptake till the cation exchange issue is resolved. The bugs, usually fungus gnats can be a problem too.

It seems fungus gnats like the coco - but this can be easily fixed. I would think soil has more bug issues than coco - and coco kicks the shit out of soil if used proper. In my experience - however there are awesome organic soil mixes that are killer as well, and if dialed it get awesome results. But what I see for the most part is coco is way better than soil.

A mix of 60% peat moss with the rest perlite. How would you treat this?

I personally would go with a mix that is only 40% straight peat at most. EWC, perlite, vermiculite, and some nice dark soil/compost/pre-bagged un-fertilized topsoil for the rest.

I've found from personal experience mixes that are pure peat, or a real high % peat content don't allow for as fast or dense root development. I sure others will dis-agree, this is just what has worked best for me on previous attempts.
