Soil monsters

Hey guys, I'm running a small CFL setup using organic soil (LC's mix #2 with dry amendments) and I'm starting to see some weird tuber things in my soil.

To start off with I WAY over watered these plants so they are just starting to dry out from my last relentless drenching. This has caused some algae formation on the top of the soil but thankfully the plants seem to be recovering from several of the different ailments/deficiencies that seem to have come about by the soil being soaked.

I was checking the plants over tonight and I noticed these translucent 'tubes' with hairs all over them on the top layer of my soil! They almost look kinda of like translucent roots. Anyway I'm assuming they are some kind of mold/fungi that has come about by the damp soil conditions but it would be great if any of you guys/gals out there could help me figure out what exactly it is and if its good or bad for my plants.

Attached is the best picture I could get of one of the 'tubes'. They grow like this but in bunches usually in little cracks in the top layer of soil and they are present on about 50% of my plants.

that is your root system... also on top of the soil... u crazy cat! roots look healthy ...perfect... just dont expose them to light too much as its not good for the plant... this plant is doing well! i dont think you have overwatered this plant... when u water a plant you totally drench the soil with water n feed... when the water runs off into the undertray let it sit there for about half a day for the plant and pot to absorb asmuch of the water as poss.... after a few hours if there is still water sitting in the under tray, get rid of it!... then let the soild get dusty and firm before you feed again.... over watering is if you constantly keep the soil soaked... it needs to dry up a lil!!!

Perfectly healthy! That "fuzz" is where the magic happens in the relationship between root, microbial/beneficial fungi, and the ability to uptake nutrients efficiently!! Congrats and enjoy...

Wow, haha what a noob I am. Sorry for the false alarm then guys but thats killer news about the roots. This is my first grow and I DID overwater them right from the start and after their first transplant gave them a HUGE watering which has left them soaked for almost 10 days now and most of the plants were beyond droopy and showing all sorts of deficiencies. They are in a pretty hot soil mix with pretty bad drainage so I tried not to overreact to the droopiness and lack of nutes the extra water caused (I think thats what happened, too much water = inability of plants to take up nutrients?). Either way I've been letting them suck everything up the last little while and just do their own thing and they are starting too look healthy again so thanks for the reassurance guys! Hopefully I don't keep crying wolf as I have been stressing over the plants a bit too much I think

You're about ready to transplant up a pot a size too, just in case you were not aware of that ;-)

PS- EVERYONE was a newb at one point and you can never know it all. Everyone is a teacher just as everyone is a student.

Have fun out there...
