Hey goes please dont start the flaem of useing the search i did once and didnt find anything and dont feal like being wasteing any more time. I just had a scared shut down shop and killed moms... Now im pissed starting from seed
and feel like keeping my moms in dirt this time around.

If anyone could let me know whats a good mix for seedlings and later on a mix for keeping up moms Ive always ran dro so dirt is another world for me. thanks in advance.

I take no credit for this but many here on icmag can vouch for it:

Moonshine's Mix
7 52289 79005 8 - 1 bag 1.5 cu/ft of Foxfarm Ocean Forest potting soil (teal colored bag)
7 52289 79001 0 - 1 bag 1.0 cu/ft of Foxfarm Planting Mix Batguano/earthwormcastings (red bag)
7 52289 79005 8 - 1 bag 1.0 cu/ft of Light Warrior High Yeild ultra premium blend (dark blue bag)
7 52289 41104 5 - 8-10 qt's Foxfarm "chunky" perilite
7 52289 20033 5 - 1 cup of Fox farm "Peace of Mind" fruit and flower fertlizer 5-8-4 $7/15 cups

**This is the recipe for the soil mixture I have been using for quite a few years now..."Moonshine's Mix" requires only plain waterings throughout the life of the plant with only three transplants... I have made one or two changes to the mix over the last year and now its quite idiotproof......and by the end of flowering you will share the same feelings I do.." Foxfarm rules".....My main issues with most liquid fertlizer diets is the large swing in Ph that can occur or as with most growers , adding the wrong fertlizer or too much can ruin you crop or really mess up the flavor. For ME flavor is what organic herb is all about....
You will have to buy these supplies from a Hydro/grow store or a professional garden supply company/ nursery....Foxfarm is located in Arcata, California which is in Humblolt county. So if any company is better placed to meet the needs of growers it would be them...I'll list the products to buy; then the actual base ingredients of the entire mix....when I but a single batch of soil its about 65 dollars total but costs will vary depending on store....
1 bag of Foxfarm Ocean Forest potting soil (teal colored bag) ...cost 17-25$...1.5 cu/ft
1 bag of Foxfarm Batguano/earthwormcastings planting mix (red bag) cost 15-20$.....1. cu /ft
1 bag of Light Warrior High Yeild ultra premium blend (dark blue bag) cost 15-20$......1. cu/ft
8-10 qt's of Perilite... I prefer the foxfarm "chunky" perilite but it can be expensive...When using the FF chunky it comes in a large bag I use half the bag in this mix...its easier than measuring out qt's...(roughly 8$ worth of perilite)
1 cup of Fox farm "Peace of Mind" fruit and flower fertlizer 5-8-4....$7 for a box which has about 15 cups ...
I use a small 2.49$ blue kiddie swimming pool from Mal-wart () and a regular shovel (bad back) to mix it all together....I keep a 40 gal tub of the stuff mixed up ready to go at all times...the mixture is somewhere in the 43-45 gallons of soil total...which will fill nine or ten 4 gallon buckets or seven or eight 5 gallon buckets....so it is quite a bit of substrate....I have also tried this mix in a "Soma" style dirt bed but honestly it works best in regular buckets....
the reason you dont need any additional ferts is simple...you just created one of THE richest soils available anywhere.....the three different bags of planting mixtures that were used were created to be used indepentently with the liquid ferts...but combining all three creates a sort of super soil.....
Ingredients in the soils are: Composted Forest Humus x2, Sphagnum peat moss x3, Earthworm castings x3, PacificNorthwest seagoin fish ,crab meal, shrimp meal, vermicultural compost (bedding material and livestock manure) x2 , Sandy loam x2, perilite x2, fossilized bat guano x2, granite dustx3, Norwegian Kelp meal x2, dolomite lime and oyster shell for Ph x3 and Humic acid from leonardite and Mycorrhizal innoculents.....then the additional cup of "peace of mind" adds feather meal, hydrolyzed fish, fish bone meal, sulfate of potash, magnesia, alfalfa meal, blood meal, bat guano, rock phosphate, kelp meal. and gypsum....plus 12 species of Mycorrhizae and 6 species of benificial bacteria.....
Water Ph should be started at 6.7 and dropped to 6.5 by the end of flowering.... wet/dry cycles are vital to the success with this soil mixture ; if kept too wet the plants will be stunted so allow at least 4-7 days between waterings...Bucket size and plant size will determine how many days between waterings...personaly I let my plants droop(not wilt) slightly with the buckets being very light...
To make sure you have non-stop growth and foilage development transplants are key....I have a simple schedule I go by.....I take my rooted clones and plant them in 1/2 gallon containers which they remain for 2 weeks......then they are transplanted into 2 gallon containers for an additional 2-3 weeks...at this time they are ready to flower and I can eiter choose to transplant into a 4 or 5 gallon container depending on the strains food or root growth needs....or if its a 90+ sativa strain I may even plant into a 10 gallon garbage can that has been drilled full of holes....
Simple...kinda of expensive but Worth every penny....I'v eused a dozen other soils and mixes of my own but this 3 bag mix is amazing....The guys at my local grow shop are now recommending it to everyone and they say the response has been overwhelming...they were reordering dirt weekly to meet the demand to the point the store opened a warehose in the back of the store so they could carry palates of foxfarm dirt .....**

Here is another mix i tried. I definetly didn't use enough fish emultion during veg, so i had light green plants. however, now that they are in flower, they are LOVING this soil mix! If you wanna use this mix on veg and mothers, i would suggest some nitrogen, via fish emulsion or any other organic ferts. both of the mixes i've posted are organic.

40% (10gal) Sta-Green Pro. potting soil-(Lowe's) http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=86633-316-554174&lpage=none
40% (10gal) Perlite
10% (2.5gal) Composted cow manure (Lowe's)
10% (2.5gal) Worm casting (Worm's Way)
1 Tbls./gal. Blood meal (Lowe's)
1 Tbls./gal. Bone meal (Lowe's)
2 Tbls./gal. Rock Phosphate (Worm's Way)
3 Tbls./gal. Kelp meal (Worm's Way)
1/2 Tbls./gal. Sul-Po-Mag

Ferts -
5-1-1 Fish emulsion for veg.-1 tbls/gal. h2o every other watering.
Fox Farm Big Bloom-1 tbls./gal. and Fox Farm Tiger Bloom-2 tsp./gal. h2o for flower every other watering.

I prefer the simple route,I use ocean forest for plants at all stages.25-30% perlite,a skosh of dolomite and you're good to go.Dont buy into the "ocean forest is too hot for seedlings" bullshit, people that say that have more than a media problem

Hey soilman, do feed them liquid fertilizers in addition to the ocean forest mix, or just let them grow in the dolomite, perlite, and lime?

I usually used a pretty basic mixture of soil, always worried about burning the plants early on. If you use ocean forest with no problems right from the get go, I will definitely be doing the same with my next grow.

Some more info about what you do would be great (liquid ferts, any other additives, problems, etc.)

My mothers go right into Miracle Grow soil that can feed them up to 3 months. I don't plan on smoking the mothers so no worries about the bad taste from the MG soil. I find seedlings will usually get a little burn from MG soil but new cuttings typically won't. The only thing I add to MG soil is some perilite.

With clones when I root them and plant in soilmy first watering is with olivia's cloning solution at about 3/4 cup per gallon.New clones and seedlings for that matter need the p and K to get started. My second watering is with 7 ml. PBP grow and 3-4 teaspoons of LK.I stay with this every time while in the 4 inch pot. When I transplant up I'll switch to the normal 2 teaspoons LK and 15 ml PBP grow each watering. At 12-18 inches I'll use 30 ml PBP grow and 2 teaspoons LK.I use R/O water and calmag every other watering.I use PBP and LK as directed another words.EDIT During the "stretch" of 12/12 I prefer to use fox farm grow big instead of PBP grow, then switch to tiger bloom around 3 weeks in

That sounds like a nice nutrient setup man!

Here's basically what I did as far as nutrients my last grow, if you could take a look at the rundown, and let me know what I should tweak that would be great:

Start the clones off with a mix of cloning solution, and a weak mix of Alaska Fish Fertilizer, maybe 1/4 strength.

Switch over to 1/2 strength Grow Big, 1/2 strength Alaska Fish Fertilizer, and some Liquid Karma to continue veg.

Lights switch to 12/12...

PBP/LK until about a week before harvest.

I know this sounds very simple, and can probably be improved on. However, I need to keep things as simple as possible and also cost is a concern.

What would be the biggest things you would change about the above?

If it works great for you,I wouldnt change a thing.I used FF grow big in veg for years, its a great fert but I found it a little tricky to master perfectly.I'd find myself burning a plant or two a bit even after years of use lol,not so with PBP grow.Use every watering as directed during veg and you plants will never be over or under fed.Its idiot proof and thats probably why I appreciate it lol!I also get better results than I did with grow big, grow big for the stretch when the plants are using N like a bitch and arent likely to burn is the ticket for me.

Ya that sounds key. I always see the plants needing more N, but if I bump it up I seem to burn them with the Grow Big...

I think I'll probably switch over to PBP Grow. I have never tried any other veg fert and would like to see what is out there.

Do you use LK throughout the grow?

Thanks for all the information!

Yea I use LK every time I feed, not every time I water.During flower I water every thrid or fourth day and feed every other time giving me 1 teaspoon of tiger bloom per week. You would think using PBP veg using plain water once in awhile would be beneficial,I havent tried it and wont because using it per directions though pricey produces veg results I never got from grow big.

I hope you get the results I get from it,keep a botlle of grow big for the 12/12 stretch though when you can use 1-2 tsp per gallon without fear of tipburn or worse!I dont fear the GB once the plants become large lol its good "stretch food"
