You want to know about potting soil....heres my take on outdoor and indoor soil.
Indoor soil- Buy premade, homemade soil is awful (dust will kill you...not to mention the premade soil has a wetting agent added) Anything thatcompareswith "Sunshine soil or Promix" is yor best bet.(glad I live next to the soil manufacturing plant)lol!

Outdoor soil-premade(landscaping company)Soil mix #4(pretty standard mix for outdoor applications...Mulch,peat,topsoil,and cow shit.

P.S. I use burlap bags for outdoor grows, never dig a hole and turn soil or use plastic bags they can be seen from the air.
Peace.......

I have had luck with the following combination. All of which can be obtained from your local Walmart. (Home depot, lowes both have same)

for 15 x 5 gallon buckets I mixed:

2 x 50lb bag of Expert Gardener Perfect mix 9 month formula
1 x 50lb bag of Miracle grow 3 month
1 x 50lb bag of Sand
2 x 25lb bag of perlite

I mixed them all evenly throughout all the pots. Took an hour and half but mixing your soil and making sure there are no chunks is important.

Yes, miracle grow soil works great. I have been using it for 10 years. You could use it straight up, but mixing it with Perlite, sand, and other types of soil will make for a better growing medium. The Advanced grow 9 month formula appeared to be better soil IMO, thats why I used 2/1.

checked out the advancedsoil.com site. looks like good stuff, but not sure due to all nutes already added, if it would b good to use if u(i), plan on adding different nutes in flowering...may b too much. maybe regular soil, like promix hp would b best...

I am sorry, I meant to say "Expert Gardener Perfect mix 9 month formula" instead of advanced. Yeah I agree you do not want to have too much synthetic fertilizer in the soil if you plan on adding liquid nutrients.

I've used Miracle Grow "Organic" with perilte, vermiculite, bone & blood added. Had decent results. I am still trying to get the ratio right. My goal is to find a mix with readily available ingredients that will carry me through the flowering cycle with little to no additional fertilization.

organic peat based potting mix - 3 or 4 scoops
compost (organic, leaf mold, etc.) - 1 scoop
sheep manure - half a scoop
bat guano - 2 tablespoons or so
perlite - 1 scoop if potting mix already had some, 2 or 3 if it didn't.

mix it all up and repeat until pot is full.

It seemed to work just fine. Maybe it was a little hot. I have gotten a little nute burn soon after repotting, but the plants seemed to grow out of it. However, the burn may have been caused by the perilite which had added MG ferts. I can't find the stuff with no fertilizer any more.

I also had a problem with gnats. Could not get rid of them no matter what I did. Once again I'm not sure if they were already in the soil or just found their way into my cab.

Hope this helps....
