Sorry if I violate rule #2, wasn't getting any love over at micro grow sub. Original post: https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=260097

My first attempt was a failure, problems discussed here: https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=256877

Looking for tips for success with commercial soil mix where full organic growing and complicated nute mix aren't practical. I have done piles of reading and understand the basics.

Thanks!

I think you can go with this easy soil mix also if you are new to this kind of things:
-Potting soil 60%
-Perlite 15%
-Building Sand 10%
-Worm Castings 10%
-Pre-Mix (npk 12-6-6) 5%
And that's a 100% healthy and easy soil for your plant to start with, you don't neither need to fertilize your plant for the first weeks wth this!!

Thanks for the reply! I think I saw worm castings at the hardware store, can you elaborate on the pre-mix?

So it appears my previous mix was a bit perlite heavy....

I think that too, the pre-mix is the nutrient for the first weeks, just look or ask for a pre-mix with that npk value and you're done..

I have no idea what pre-mix is lol! Commercial soil with additives? Straight nutrient mix? Have a feeling i might not find this... Looked at a couple stores and cant see anything other than enriched potting soil (a la miracle grow) and chem fertilizers. Maybe have to wait until spring planting season.... Not for another month or so up here.
