SOG from clones - symmetric versus asymmetric growth.

I was wondering if anyone can confirm that clones having asymmetric growth yield better than symmetric clones in a SOG with little veg time?
In my last grow all of my clones were pretty symmetric, and it seemed like the growth pattern was a small clump of bud at the top with symmetric pairs of small buds down below - mostly shaded out by the fan leaves. I'm wondering if an already asymmetric clone would have a more open structure, with a longer solid bud at the top, or even solid bud almost down to the roots?

Hey bro I'll try and give some input...

First off, everyone here is stoned... I had to lookup the definition of symmetric before I replied, lol...keep it simple :)

Second, by asymmetric I think you're talking about Alternating Nodes, when the nodes are no longer symmetrical... they alternate on the main stem. This happens once the plant reaches maturity in VEG.

About your clone's yield, I believe what you're looking for is genetic. You need to try clones of many different plants, and I am sure you'll find some that will cover the entire clone with bud (rather than just 1 small bud at the top). I have seen what you're talking about, you need the right mother plant. I would go with something that has a lot of stretch once you flower, and yields well (potency is important too, obviously). I am actually looking for a mother plant like this, I'm planning on ordering 3 to 4 different sativa dominant strains and doing a quick flower with them (2 week veg, then 12/12), the best will be re-vegged for mothers.

Checkout rez strawberry diesel, someone did a grow with a short veg with it and turned out successful, I think it'd be a good candidate for your grow.

Hope I helped, cya

yes symmetrical is good for SOG. it is good in general for production and light usage not to say that a symmetrical plant is a better plant just that its a little easier to grow indoors and usually yields better because its shape allows it to use available light indoors more efficiently.

i believe it was petfish that suggested in a thread i believe was 1 of JDOG6000 threads he mentioned to remove any leaves under the top of canopy that shade out lower sites. ive done this 2 times and on my 3rd run i really like the results. also after wk 2 of flowering i remove all growth branchs from soil upward to approx 12 inch of soil. dont fret about cutting leaves i leave the top 2-3 large leaves and cut the rest below if thier shading a bud site. also the smaller leaves grow out anyways

thats 26 days 12/12 in the above pic's strain is lavender

Thanks for your replies. I'm excited to see how my current grow will turn out now I'm giving some more veg time. I really do want a true SOG strain though - next one up for the test when I harvest in a couple of months will be Mandala's Satori.

Did you mean symmetric or asymmetric is best?

symmetric for SOG is best but don't take that to mean you cant grow asymmetric in a SOG and sometimes the most unruly plants during growth make for some of the best smokes... go figure.
