So much for starting small... InducedSerenity's ongoing 2kw First Grow!

Thanks for the comments gentlemen. And welcome, Fat J!

There is definite herming going on, they're still popping a few little white flowers under the screen, I just pinch them off and spray with water, and I turned the fans off on that side of the box. I have no clue how seeded I'm going to be, we'll see at chop, but there are definitely going to be some seeds - I've already found 5 or so.

I definitely stressed them out with the branch removal then, because I pulled out like 2 gallons of undergrowth a few weeks ago! Live and learn, I guess - what's the latest you guys trim up small branches, and can you pinch off new growth that won't turn into anything?

I've been checking for light leaks when I wake up in the morning, and fixed a few really minor ones I couldn't see at night without my eyes fully adjusted, but I guess that could have been enough too. I've learned a lot and am confidently hopeful my next run will be a lot better - they're already in day 6 of flower and stretching.

The pump in my DWC tub died yesterday. Used a ghetto harbor freight hand pump to remove almost all water and added back RO - it was at .4 EC / 200 PPM.. guess I could have pumped more out. Might actually chop sunday and monday night, otherwise next weekend. Trichs were all cloudy when I looked last night.

U got more pics? What about those macros u took?

And... DUDE< PROPS! Killer funken setup for anybody, especially a first timer. Very nice.

THANKS! I spent months building that I could have been growing if I had used a tent, but I like my setup and learned a lot.

I'll post some more pics tonight, and I'll try to get some macros for you guys to help me understand what are balls versus calyxes lol. Obviously I know what flowers look like.. unfortunately.

Thanks for following along and helping me, I appreciate it!

Woot, harbor freight represent - ghetto tech HQ! Also keep in mind, the strain may be hermie dominant anyway... specially what dudebro who provided em said. Its only safe to remove branches 1 week into 12/12, but I prefer to not chop any branches as soon as I flip. I usually do my last major pruning like 2-3 days before I flip, just be savage about it.

^.^ Stay high.

Way to keep me up late, Fat J! Seeing as today (yesterday?) is day 5 of flip, I went ahead and pruned the PPP and OGMK ladies a bit. Took some clones in rapid rooters and some into straight coco, we'll see if either survive! Glad I got that out of the way, and I wont cut branches this time!

Checked the blumat res - 5.8 pH and 1.5 EC ( 750ppm @ .5) - stable as can be! A bit higher on EC than I intended, but they're not complaining so I won't.

The retarded OGMK that I hated looking at but didn't have the heart to throw away did me a favor and died - not sure what her deal was but me snapping her stem accidentally a few days ago while testing her flexibility probably helped . She didn't recover, thankfully:

Transplanted 6 of my 7 rooted clones from 9 oz clear+red dixie cups to 2 gal geo pots:

And had some fun with one side of my flower box's door:

Okay, so I found some okay macros from yesterday. Pics are from day ~48-50:

Regarding the last pic, I believe that's a branch that had a male flower on it - are those normal-looking calyxes? I gotta look at more macros in the flower shots forum!

Pumped out 5 gals again, replaced with 7-8 gals of RO (can't check tomorrow night). .2 ec, 100 ppm or so, 5.5 pH. I can't wait to be done with this res and bad nutes / broke ass pump.

A shot I kind of like to finish it off:

oh and by the way... I just smoked my first bowl of homegrown weed. it was a little green tasting but I can tell it'll have a nice taste to it when cured, and it was AWESOME to smoke something I grew after the past year of researching and 6 mos of prep. :woohoo:

Serenity,

Just a thought from all my experience here at icmag - don't try everything you read about on your plants! Take solid notes from your readings and experience, and then develop a strategy and apply it to the NEXT grow. It's all about having a gameplan established on paper (or at least well organized thoughts in your head) BEFORE you start a grow so that you are more or less following a schedule with room for adaptations along the way.

And like someone said earlier, just breath.. take it easy, and realize that the plant has its own agenda. Your job is simply to work around that, not overpower it. First find out how long your strain takes to flower (8-12 weeks) and plan accordingly. MJ really hates being cared for by someone who changes his/her mind every week.

MAKE 'WEEKLY' CHANGES AS NEEDED!!!

KEEP IT CONSISTENT!!!

GO SLOW!!!

bloody good post ^^

Can clearly see that nannery culprit in pic 3 eh mate, it's a shame, but at least you've learned the differences between a male flower and female preflower and going forward you'll always be able to spot these (assuming they're not hidden) in future :)

congrats on smoking your own too... there's nothing quite like it :D

Thanks for the input guys, and awesome post Skiz! I must agree, it's easy when you're first starting to want to try everything you read about, but that seems to make too many variables to isolate what works and what doesn't. It's amazing how much I've learned and continue to learn, and I'm certainly grateful for any and all input that you guys give me. Cheers!

Hogsbreath day 57. I think I saw phosphorus defs a little too early, I think not changing out my res was a mistake - the ratios got to be wrong. Well, guess i'm past that but now i'm starting to give thought to the 6/9 micro/bloom recipes that include additions of Koolbloom for extra P. They're in pHed RO, and will get chopped on Saturday.

PPP and OGMK flower day 13 - damn these things are stretching! HB seem didn't do this much, but I never let it grow any fans and there are also only really 3 of them versus 9, so maybe I'm just noticing it more. Not a huge fan of the big height increase, but I guess you see it more if you're not scrogging, and they're not too bad. Front left plant was defoliated frequently in veg, front right was not deleafed at all until the very end of veg. 4 PPPs are on the corners, 5 OGMK squeezed into the middle:

And the babies are chugging along - day 6 since repot:

lookin great bro especially for a first timer! Looks like you learned a bit and your next run is coming along nicely! Keep up the good work and make SD proud! PEACE

check your amber ration on the scrog, if they are starting to mostly turn that amber/cloudy then the leaves browning is ok, i've seen alot of plant's leaves die off for a big final push to get bigger, plan ahead as far was what you want to do and stick with it aslong as ther girls are liking it good first time grow sir.

Welcome tons, and thanks for dropping by and the compliment bro!

cali, good to see you around still. Chopping on Saturday, buddy coming over to help trim around 11, and lights off is 7. Unfortunately I can't fit my screen / tub out of my flower room - what do you think about chopping branches and tossing them in water for a few hours until the trim? I know it'll be a lot easier to trim if they aren't wilted yet.

Gonna put up chicken wire in the veg cab and hang them to dry with clothespins after trimming. The vegging girls will have to adjust to 24/0 for a few days while the buds dry in their home.

Congratz!
Dont put em in water after chop, also, only trim the big leaves before drying. You get a more even drying imho if you leave all the small leaves until they are ready to be jarred.
Do what I do - chop em and hang em upside-down in the closet shouldnt be much big leaf, trim that before u chop...

Edit- forgot to mention: Trimming when plants are wet will cause much of the fresh, moist trichomes to get smashed and ruined - once they dry out, this wont happen, trimming when wet can be bad for quality, thats why I say only trim off the big leaf, so u dont disturb the buds.

^14 hours of straight trimming for 2 of us. It was my first time and my buddy was almost twice my speed until i stopped being so anal (and probably cutting too close). Sprung Bags are on their way to try to make some bubble with the trimmings and tiny popcorn.

No clue on wet weight. The scrog screens they're hanging from are 36x40, so it's a decent amount eh?

Day 16 OGMK/PPP:

PPP Veg day 9 - they're displaced from their home ATM as the buds dry.

Fat J - i'm curious why you are telling him to NOT trim the buds fully at the point of chop..? It seems that almost everyone does it that way, and i really don't follow your claim that it can reduce potency. as long as your not a buffoon with your buds and trimmers, everything should turn out just fine. Besides, trimming leftover leaf from dry buds will cause more trichs to fall off than if the plant material is still wet and it makes your job so much harder - unless you have only a few plants i just can't see the justification.

thanks for the nice words, folks! And special recognition to Jamie for keeping me sane - we found about 5 more male flowers and some preflowers, but only about 5 more seeds, and most were premature.

Skiz - I agree with you as well, actually. Intuitively, it seems you'd lose much more brittle trichs if trimming dry, plus it's just harder. I trimmed wet, chopping a branch or 2 at a time, and it worked great. 14 hours of great.

Weird double post from my phone.. Made bubble hash today with my new Sprung bags - worked great! I froze the rest of the trim to make more this weekend. Kept 25, 73, 110 (i think). I got a surprising amount of 25, more than the 73.. is that normal or did i go a little crazy with my power drill?
