So much for starting small... InducedSerenity's ongoing 2kw First Grow!

What are you planning on flowering those new babies under? They look good to go but not sure if your trying to blow it up or not...? Probably pull like 1-2oz off those though.

Anyways like I said the trim job doesn't look like it hurt em so who really knows....And my meter was recently set to .7 conversion rate by a friend who suggested that's how I should read my PPM's....But I've been goin by the EC regularly and it seems to work well at 1.2, now in second week flower at 1.3EC...Anyways, good to hear back, take care. PEACE

They're actually just the first rockwool clones to show roots - I have 8 more PPP cuts waiting to root before I stick them in coco. Going to try putting cuts in straight coco cups without a dome though, I think it might work better.

They're my next round of veg clones, but you piqued my noob curiosity - did you mean maybe 1-2 oz each if I flipped them like that?

I'm thinking of putting 9 of the 10 girls in geo pots into the flower box this weekend. Not sure if I'll put a scrog net in there or not.

appreciate the company in here! lol

Yea those big ten look like they are in 2 gallons right?? They already look big enough for sure, I was saying 1-2 oz per each plant yes. Especially if you flower under a 1k youll be doing fine.

Day 42 Flower, 32 Veg

Day 42 Flower, 32 Veg

Thanks Cali! I let them go a bit more, and am going to flip this weekend (really, i will!)

Veg cab overview (PPP clones day 32, OGMK ?)

Ugly OGMK's - still regretting buying these, so I took it out on them with my first foray into LST. Creased a couple of the woody stems nicely a few days ago, but I'm already impressed by the explosion of growth on these previously pathetic plants. I did a bit more today to get practice, but now they're shorter than my PPP.

Might flip the PPP a few days before these, but I'm not sure yet. Wish I'd done the LST when I got them and the stems were pathetically weak from being staked.

And now the DWC. It was interesting because I was always fighting pH drop / EC rise, so I dropped the EC from the normal 1.8-1.9 EC to 1.4 by pumping out solution and adding RO. The plants promptly responded by yellowing leaves - FML.

I pumped out most of the res and replaced the nutes solution with a fresh solution of FNB to end up at 1.6 EC and 5.6 pH - I'd never changed the res, so this will help return all of the nute values to the proper ratios. If yellowing continues I'll throw some Grow in there, but I think I caught it and fixed it quickly:

Here's the same bud I posted closeups of earlier in the thread. It's definitely not my biggest but I thought I'd stay consistent:

You can see the slight nute burn, which is why I was so irritated that they threw a def I lowered it.

Thanks for looking! I wonder how much time these hogsbreath have left!

NOW I feel like I'm getting somewhere!

NOW I feel like I'm getting somewhere!

I'm stoked right now! Last night I finished my DIY tray / table and I flipped the 10 plants in the veg box into the flower box, and installed my Blumats! They only have a 10 gal reservoir for now, but it's something! The tray has a drain fitting which is plumbed to a rubbermaid underneath the table.

I need to even out the canopy and decide if I'm using a screen or not, but I'm beyond stoked that they're in there and I'm pretty much on schedule. I can't wait until I move away from the daily pH checks and adjustments of the DWC.

Here's the box:

And self-made PPP and HB babies. The ones in the foreground aren't showing roots in the clear cups yet, the others are starting to explode roots now that they have actual light!

Going to pick up some Rapid Rooters soon and make more PPP
babies from the ones I just flipped - not a huge fan of rockwool cloning. I got a great success percentage, but it just took too damn long. I'm sure that's my fault, though. They probably didn't get enough light under my tray, now that I look under there in the last pic. Should I put one under there?

Thanks for dropping in for a look... don't be shy!

sooooooooooooooo this sucks. Input would be great. or maybe even just a "that sucks!"

I think the pics say it best.. this seemed to happen in the last week or so, because I didn't notice it when inspecting a little over a week ago, unless I'm retarded.. thoughts? Hogsbreath, 45 days in. pH dropped last Saturday / Sunday for a bit over a day to 4.95, could that have caused it or was it the very tiny glowing light leak I found? I kind of doubt it'd happen that fast and from the pH issue but I have no experience here.

The guy I got the cut from is the same guy I grabbed the OGMK from a couple of weeks ago, and he told me then that he stopped flowering this HB because of a tendency to herm. Great, thanks for telling me now after I've put 3.5 months into it.

Since this is my first grow I have no idea what yield would have been, but check out the overview pic and that's larger than 4x4 under a 1k - pretty decent. :(

The trichs are mostly cloudy and I only saw like 1% amber - at least 2 more weeks, I guess? if I want to minimize my loss here should I keep my other plants in the veg box and finish these to bubble them, and then go nuts cleaning the box before I flip the other girls?

I think everyone hates this question but does anyone have a wild guess how much bubble hash I'd get from these flowers? Trying to decide if it's worth it... I'd hate to just have this go to complete waste.

I had just hooked up my blumats and flipped my other girls last night. I'm so irritated right now. I'm going to have fun destroying the clones I have growing.

Thanks..

you saying you see a nanner there?

I don't see it mate.. please get a close up or circle off the bit you mean...

I don't see the problem (I might be slightly too high ;) )

Yeah, the crop's seeded. I pulled out some just developing little white ones and split open a pod and found a little growing black one too... no denying what that is. That's a fat nanner in the second pic at the bottom right, isn't it?

the 2nd pic at the bottom of the stem - the first "ball" shaped thing... that is a female preflower.. there is another just above it with 2 brown pistills coming out... that is NOT a nanner bro.. thats lady parts ;)

I'm not saying they ain seeded bud :)

but this is fem preflowers...

dont throw anything away just yet..:)

edit - lots of people see these and think "balls".. a lot of new grows have ended up in the bin by mistake ;)

Jamie, glad you're here. Help a newbie out some more :D

So, I picked out one DEFINITE black seed from a bud, but I think I'm mistaking swollen calyxes for seed pods, I'm not sure. Kind of funny to go from a casual smoker to growing on this scale. If there was at least 1-2 seeds, there was a male flower in there somewhere, right? I can't find any for the life of me and I'm not sure if I should be really excited and stupid or disappointed because more are on their way. If I'm all seeded would I know by now?

Thanks! I'm going nuts trying to figure out what to do.

ok...step one...breathe in...breathe out :D

I've made the mistake in the past of thinking my very swollen buds and calyxes were seeded only to find that they were just really damn swollen :)

Its possible that a nanner can grow inside a bud without you ever seeing it ..

One thing that happens is, when a bud is seeded the pistil die and turn brown very quickly (far earlier than you'd expect on a sensi crop) so if for example you'reon day 40 of a known 65 day strain and all the hairs are brown? then yeah youre seeded, and probably heavily. However if your pistils are still growing green then white, then chances are the bud is not pollinated/seeded.

If you DO have some kind of "internal" nannering then chances are it'll only be that one bud thats affected (as the pollen cannot escape)..

Another thing to remember is, even the existence of the nanner doesnt mean for certain that seeding will take place... some nanners are sterile, some plants you'll get the odd one and you can pluck it off and some are just ridiculous and not worth the effort... you'd know if you had that as it would be literally covered in nanners with open pollen sacs everywhere... trust.. you'd know!

OK, I took a bunch of pics but the macro on my camera isn't great and I'm not too patient atm... I found several developed seeds and the I think the rest of the ones I was scared about are swollen calyxes. I found about 6 opened male flowers but they were just white, with no yellow nanners. They were dried though - wonder if they all already dropped their loads or if some were sterile. No powder to be found, and I cut the branches they were attached to and tossed the buds. All were under the scrog screen.

The hairs are mostly white, there are some brown ones but I wouldn't say "most." I guess the biggest question in my mind is whether the swollen calyxes will develop into seeds in the next 2 weeks until they finish. I did locate 5+ seeds and some calyxes I couldn't decide if they were developing into seeds or not.

Damn, there's no substitute for "doing," is there? A bowl and some strong beer and I'm still stressed out. I combed over the plants for a couple of hours and didn't find more though, and I'm misting around my room with physan to kill any leftover pollen.

Thanks for the help... after reading about this it seems a lot more common than I thought, especially late in flower!

Possible causes:

  • pH swing up to 6.4 for at least a day 2-3 weeks ago.
  • pH swing down to 4.95 for at least a day 1 week ago - doubtful.
  • EC swing several weeks ago from 1.8-2.6 for a couple of weeks while I figured out how to manage floranova's crap pH swing and realized these girls are very light feeders
  • VERY small glowing light leak I could only see when my eyes adjusted completely. Fixed this / these and am checking much more often for them now.
  • Clearing about a 2-gallon bucket of popcorn buds just a week or 2 ago, all at once.
I guess I won't freak out and pull my newly flipped plants from the room, but I will mist the surfaces with physan / water several times to make sure I get the pollen. I don't think I'll be scrogging these next girls, even though I loved the easily managed canopy. It makes inspection much too hard, and it's easy to get lazy.

Thanks to anyone who's managed to read my longwinded posts!

mate even the seeded bud can be smoked... just pull the seeds out... I wouldn't actually bin anything... worst case is I'd make hash... and that really aint so bad either :D

Good thing Jamie was in here. Sound like your crop is fine to me, looks fine too. I wouldnt be throwing those buds out, even the couple little nugs you pulled early would get you high bro! Check it out, even if your crop was pollinated around day 40 those seeds wont finish in time by harvest....Most likely you wouldnt even see a difference, maybe little green hard seeds that never matured and those dont bother much when smoked.

Anyways, yea it looks like you were blowing it was out of proportion, I have had many run ins with hermies and pollen sacks and have maybe ended up with one or two seeds in an entire crop.

Wanted to mention also that I think your Hogsbreath looks like its got some kind of diesel in her looking at those tongue shaped single bladed leaves coming out later in flower.

yeah tell me about it bro! Needless to say, I was freaking out. I really wish I wouldn't find stuff like this late at night when I'm already sleep deprived from the week!

I tossed the branches because they were all small with no big colas above the screen, and I don't trust myself to recognize nanners yet, and I saw a couple more balls near some of the flowers that looked like they might develop. Should have kept the bud for sure, good thing it was only a couple grams. I would have come to my senses before tossing more.

Cali, are herm flowers often nonviable or have you just caught them early enough to not cause a problem? Interesting about the diesel mix, we'll see how she smokes. I think i'll just be running my PPP clones next round unless I find something decent I want to run in the meantime.

Jamie, thanks for maintaining my sanity! I owe you! hahaha.

I was up till 6:30 reading, inspecting, and redoing some weatherstripping. Glad I can relax now.. and thanks guys.

I would either have nanners so late in flower that it didnt matter, or Id catch the sacks before they opened. On a couple of occasions though I had found a sack completely open and empty and only a few seeds in a good amount of bud. Hope all works out for ya, Peace

no worries feller... it's something more and more us are having to deal with.. it's the price of some of these genetics (anything diesel seems to herm - my casey did)

Hey, nice setup, just read thru, very well done. Good 2 see someone talked u down, really easy 2 freak out when ur new to it, and yeah, dont go poke around in there when ur sleep deprived, bad things will happen ^.^ least if ur like me...

I'd say oh man that sucks, but I too see no herming on ur plant. U may have a lil pollen that blew in from someones outdoor plant... but i cant see any hermin in the pics u posted in here. And yeah, if u do pop a couple nanners at the end of bloom, it aint really gonna hurt shit, and if it makes it 2 harsh, make bubble.

That said, in my experience... the 2 things that seem 2 cause expression of the intersex trait (ie hermie/nanners) is cutting branches in bloom, and light leaks. I would suspect the light leak more than anything, but I wouldnt reccomend cutting any branches in bloom in the future. Leaves can be removed, but branch removal seems 2 cause a lot more stress. I had a couple herm on me, it was the only thing I could explain it with.

U got more pics? What about those macros u took?

And... DUDE< PROPS! Killer funken setup for anybody, especially a first timer. Very nice.
