everyone will have their own fav ways... mine is the basic rules.. but rather then mixing the oil/butter and water with the buds.. I mix the buds/oil in a mason jar and put the mason jar in crock pot for 6-12 hours.

I actually have stopped using oils and butters.. I have found for me.. if I decarb the buds good.. they will grind up into a powder.. I just add this to whatever I am making.. butter takes too long and I just have yet to have anything from butter that makes me want to continue to fail at it or to have it just work a little.. and I have tried more then 30 times to make butter... using recipe after recipe and tho the taste is great.. the meds dont work on me as well as I think they should.

@GIOUA - I do the same thing as you with the mason jar, I do it for smell reasons though. Do you find just putting the decarbed bud straight into the mix to be stronger then making butter/oil first? I have had good results, but feel they should be alot stronger, I always blamed it on using the mason jar cause I never saw anyone else do it that way.

I don't know which is the best method for making cannabutter with herb - there's plenty which seem equally reasonable and probably efficient - but if you have any chance of using hashish instead of bud (or grass), it is infinitely easier. When using marijuana, you will need to strain the plant matter from the molten butter, unless you fancy eating bits of leaf and stem here and there, and you'll have to let it simmer for way longer. With hash:

1) Melt some butter in a pan
2) Grind some hash into a fine powder
3) Chuck the hash into molten butter, stir for about 2-5 minutes

4) Your cannabutter is ready! If your recipe demands molten butter and you're baking right away, then, you're all set; otherwise, pour the molten cannabutter into a tupperware box or something and stick it in the fridge.

In my experience, getting good cannabutter from plant material takes a good 2 hours at least; with hash, you're done in under 10 minutes. Hash also tastes nice in combination with chocolate, in my experience.

Have you considered making coconut butter? Very easy to make, very stable oil. Excellent substitute for butter (its solid at 72 degrees) any baking, pastries, etc. Its shelf life is WAY longer than butter, its non-dairy if that matters to you or anyone in your life, and you can use it topically for pain, eczema, anxiety, etc. and it is great relief that leaves your head alone if you do need to function. I'm OFF the butter train and ON the coconut trip! Plus you can slow infuse it to retain its "raw" state, making it an extremely easily digestible medicine. ~MissGD

i find the taste of stuff baked with butter to be a lot nicer then with oil. but it's true you have to freeze the butter if you don't use it all fast.

if you are interested in topical application, you should check out the holy anointing oil thread in the hash section, i am planing to make some for various older family members aches and pains soon.
