and im moving into an apartment on my own in a few months and am looking to start my first grow. i was hoping to build a cab about 3x2x5 feet, use a stanley blower and my 1000W cooltubed. ambient room temps are about 60F where i live, i'll be growing in winter so it could get cooler.

does this sound feasable in that amount of space? i was planning on doing scrog on 3-4 plants

btw, i had a friend who used the 1000w hps but didnt want it anymore about a year ago ive had it lying around since

thanks alot!

Thats cool but you may want to consider 4 ft flourescent fixtures for vegging seedlings/new cuts.Your 1K is for flowering or vegging tall plants. You can get a 4 ft 4 lamp T-8 Lithonia fixture at Lowes for 50 bucks, put two of those together and you can veg some nice plants.

so you wouldn't see me having any serious heat (or even over-lighting?) problems with the 1000W in such a small space if it's only for 12/12? since i could grow overnight the temperature outdoors would be just above freezing, so i could probably pull in cold air if needed

i would rather have a 400W or 600 but this 1k is free so i figure i should try and use it

It may be very hard to keep that area cooled with that large of light. That is a large amount of heat in a small area. I suppose if you had large enough intakes and exhausts you might get the right temp dialed in......

yeah, im sort of hoping that the low ambient temps will help me keep the heat down. its kind of crazy that a single light could heat a cab from 50 to 90F when there's 250CFM of exhaust (about what the stanley puts out)

if anyone has any more input i would appreciate it, thanks

i run a 600w in a c22 which is the same size if not a little larger and a 450 cfm vortex and have no problems. i keep my a/c hood up a good 2 feet above my tops if they get within a foot i get bleaching sometimes.

ambient temp is really important cause you really can't let it drift up.

there would definately be a window in the room with near-freezing air outside, so i would have full control over ambient temps, i doubt they would ever get above 60-65, i could keep the ambient temp at whatever i wanted i think

you are gonna need TONS of air movement and one hell of an exaughst fan. I think you can pull it off though
