So I have a problem

I have government inspectors or some shit coming into my place soon and I have a few days to rebuild my sketchy ass setup into something that is a bit more stealthy. Right now it's a large black homemade tent sheathed in nice black pandafilm. I am going to be constructing a wooden cabinet. I am wondering, how do you construct doors that have a click mechanism so they stay shut even without negative air pressure? I'd love a diagram or a pic as well if possible. Any other tips on constructing larger cabs will also be most welcome. I'm also converting to a vertical grow using my 600 during this rebuild. Cab dimensions are going to be 4.5 x 4.5 x 5 feet tall. Going to do somethign similar but smaller for veg cab. Thanks in advance for all input, im freaked as fuck right now.

You should build a train and take all your plants somewhere else. Are you serious a government inspector? Why take any chances?

"government" inspection?! wtf, i agree thats really risky. just move your stuff out for the inspection then move it back in after the inspection IF ANYTHING... i would lean towards the train idea.

I think they just mean building inspectors...in any case they aren't really allowed to look INSIDE a cabinet. What is a train? I don't live in federal housing or anything, just a normal apartment complex. I have a feeling they are there b/c of some lease by the complex people or something. Far as I know the DEA or w/e other pigs don't have the right to just arbitrarily search apartments...give it a few years tho.

Have you checked with neighbors to see if they too are expecting an inspection?
How did you get notice of this?

Just food for thought...
If you are suspected of having a grow, yet there is no hard evidence been collected, could they possible concoct an "inspection" that you would simply open the door and let them in? Entrapment?...maybe. Goin to jail when they do have evidence of your grow?...most definitely.
One things for certain, it is a way for them to gain entrance without a warrant if you simply open up, smile, and let them in.

Everyone in the complex recieved teh same notice. It's liek a once every two years thing because of some lease or w/e. Only about 1/6 of hte units are going to be selected but taking a chance would be stupid so I wanna get everything stealthed. I haven't gotten a knock and talk or anything (knock on wood) so I doubt it's anything sinister but... yeah. There was a notice on everyone's door.

I've seen a lot of cabs but I can't say I've ever seen one with a click mechanism. If you want your cab doors to be held shut tight without negative pressure a couple things come to mind. The cheapest would be a tot lock. You can find these in home depot or online and I think they cost around $8. They will hold the cab shut from the inside but the problem is if you pull hard enough you can usually bend the wood it's attached to, enough to open the cab.

A second, more expensive option would be electromagnetic locks. These will guarantee that nobody will get in there. Hook the locks up to a remote power switch and plug that into an APC battery backup in case of a power failure.

It sounds like you might not have a lot of time, in which case it might be a better idea to just rent a uhaul truck and box up your plants for the inspection day (depending on how they smell). Good luck.

unfortunately I don't think I can rent a uhaul truck. I just need to make everything look normal. Bear in mind they might not even come into my house and i DO have a lock on the bedroom door. Perhaps I could just leave it locked. I do want to convert my setup though in case they DO get in.

Personally, I don't think a homemade box 4.5 x 4.5 x 5 feet tall is going to look very normal. If you really want things to look normal you'd probably be better off buying a large wardrobe cabinet and modifying that. I've had people lean against my cab and have no clue. Of course it wouldn't be as ideal as a box of the size you speak of but a box of that size doesn't do you much good in jail.

There's a good chance they will want to look in your room. If you do end up going the route of locking the bedroom door, I would at least change the lock so that the land lord wouldn't have a key and then say the tenant in that room is gone for a couple days. It all sounds kind of sketchy though. A normal looking wardrobe cabinet nobody would think twice about.

I think it's just the office urban development and stuff, all they wanna look at apparently is the heating, plumbing, etc. There's also only a 1/6 chance that my particular place will get selected. I put the lock on the door myself, nobody but me has a key to that and that's how it stays. I think I probably over-reacted as the notice that my complex gave was very short and not detailed, I got one from another complex in the area that gave a much more detailed list of what was up. Somehow I doubt that the bedroom will be a big deal but I still think I should rebuild it all. I was thinking something like this (but without all the ducting n shit on top):

The code inspector came to my place a couple years back and had me sweating hard. Turns out the only thing he was pissed about was that i had extension cords in the house. He even made a comment about growing reefer. I wouldn't worry to much it isn't there intent to bust you. I would go with what cough2getoff said and make a big wardrobe/dresser thing.

There's no way I'd let a gov'ment inspector anywhere near a grow. They all work for the same evil empire. Even if you get a good stealth box built, I'd keep the door locked and, when the inspector asks to get in, tell him you have a roommate who travels a lot and is a fanatic about privacy, hence the lock that you have no key for.

If your apartment is clean and sanitary, and there is no plumbing in that room, you might be able to get by. Meanwhile, on the day of the inspection, don't brush your teeth that morning and chew on some garlic, then follow the inspector around and talk a lot while standing real close to him/her. S/he will be in a real big hurry to get out of there if your apartment is clean and your breath stinks. It might also be a good idea to get a big jar of Ragu and let it simmer on the stove all day until after the inspector leaves. Then your apartment will smell like spaghetti sauce instead of pot... and you can have spaghetti for dinner.

All is well at this point I think. A locked door is a pretty good deterrent I guess. I made sure I was asleep at the time anyways. I think they might have wanted to come (or maybe were just seeing if I was awake) but not by the hair of my chinny chin chin. It has raised the issue of stealth though so I think after the next couple of rounds (When I can save up some more money) I am just going to try to find a big ass wardrobe or armoire (or two) and outfit it. Anyone know where to get an armoire that is more than 2 feet in depth (I'd be looking for 30 inches or more).

Garage sales, Goodwill, Salvation Army, driving the streets on trash day...

This is probably a real good decision on your part, and there are so many good wardrobe conversion threads you'll know exactly what to look for and exactly how to conert it.

Good luck!!!
