Ive been a member here for a few months now and thanks to the wonderful minds here I just harvested my first plant. Its hanging up right now. I did sample a tiny bud with no dry and no cure and Im plenty high right now :woohoo: Thank you to everyone here! :kissass:

Ok so now on the point. I just got more than a snootful of a freshly cut NLxBB plant and I smell....wait for it.........funky weed. I read smoke reports and grow diaries and all that and see stuff like "smells hashy with a hint of pineapple and tangerine" and I wonder if there is something wrong with my nose? I just smell funky weed, an indescribable smell.....
Its like the wine drinkers? When I drink wine I just taste sour grapes. Is my nose jacked or somethin??

It's really kind of subjective anyway isn't it?
But from my experience, wet weed doesn't smell very good, almost eminates a chlorine type odor, I don't know....but anyway, I don't get a "good" smell until it is dry and even better after some cure.

are you a smoker?

even though im not, i dont have the best sense of smell. some got it better than others. i really do think that each person has their own heightened sense watever it may be

i used to think that too,i just so happen to just be getting weed with no distenct smell,i think that might be it

Some people's noses just aren't as fine-tuned as others. Where some just smell weed, another person's nose may be able to select the different tastes and smells as they come together as a whole. And often times the descriptions are not literal, if a breeder says their strain smells like tangerines and vanilla (hypothetically), that doesn't mean that TANGERINE AND VANILLA are going to jump straight out at you when you smell it. Often just means that the smell will remind you of these things (in the generic pheno). But like POMH said it's mostly subjective, anyway.

you will never understand untill you grow many <diferent< plants..

and i dont just mean... many diferent strains..

for years i only grew mixes of bagseed/gift-seeds from friends... but even when growing a crop of the same offspring... you will notice distinct phenotypical diferences, well shiet... in my experience anyways...

you will see the ones that smell "sweeter".. skunkyer...... and to what degree... i find this alot easier with live plants/freshly chopped plants...

after experienceing this... you will understand what i mean... i never believed it either untill i did it..

telling apart plants by smell after a good cure (well atleast after a good bILLY cure)... well thats on another level than where im at

i believe ya, billy wonka ... i'm just not there yet . i remember when me and my roommate were brewing a batch of beer every month. our palates became VERY attuned to the subtleties of beer and we became brazen beer-snobs . it was GREAT.

Personally I think a lot of it is phsychological. It's true that some weed smells and tastes different from others: sweet, skunky, earthy, etc. But a lot of people will take that sweet smell and interpret it as what they would expect, ie, they grew blueberry so that sweet smell and taste MUST be blueberry, when it's really more of a sweet minty taste, or maybe raisins, which doesn't sound as exotic but still smells and tastes just as great.

IMHO, weed smells like one thing: weed. Yes, there is a wide spectrum of smells and tastes, but a lot of people will lick a strain's balls over what it's "official title" is.

Who drinks wine here? It's the same things. Pick up a $10 bottle of wine and it's fine. A $20 has a fruity nose and aftertastes of blackberry and oak. A $50 bottle has fruits and exotic woods that only an expert palate can discerne. (it's all the same stuff)

bwahahahahaha

i have some durban poison from seedsman here, it smells like licorice or anise. when i open the bag, i smell just that, no "weed smell" or whatever. and it is not just my imagination, i am sure if you were here you would agree. and i had northern lights from sensi - it would smell like a walk in the forest, very strong aroma, i did not like it though. but most of the weed i have smelled did have a very similar smell to it, but this is not always the case as experience teaches me.
