When you use the y-Filter, the gunk goes into the filter and not the pump. I never get all the gunk that you get. Maybe you have some other problems going on. I never have pH spiked like what you are saying. I also own a few undercurrents and they are complete garbage. They don't even supply enough air with their air pumps. I'd be more worried about the size of their air pump than the water pump.

That is not my pump i am just getting going on a under current set up

Hiya Snype. I'd first like to say how amazingly helpful i've found your info on here. I have been experimenting and attempting to replicate your RDWC only slightly bigger.. Not an easy thing to do here in the UK as the bits and peices are rediculously hard to find.

I'm attemting a 16 site 2 row system using 4 gal buckets (can't get the ones you use here without spending £20 a bucket!) I found some good buckets though. They even have flat bits on the sides for the 40mm connectors. Also ordered Danner Supreme 9's

That brings me to my first issue. It is impossible to purchase Trap Adaptors in the UK. There is tons of PVC solvent weld but no UK stockist of Nibco.

I am using 40mm tank connectors and they look fine but im getting leaks because my washers are just bollocks.

Are you still in possession of any washers or can you point me in the right direction please? I can't find them anywhere..

I'm still in the planning stage so any thoughts on 8 buckets per row?

I got ya mate, NONE of the trap adapters or pvc cemented parts exist in my country. This is what I came to:

Tank adapter 1 1/2 inch
Then tank connectors of 1 /12 x 50mm

I had washers custom made, but the one that comes with the Nicoll part I use works ok, but with the washers its perfect.

Use a lot of teflon on the 1 1/2 x 50mm and ask for help to make it fit the whole way.

The white washers are custom made for sanitary use, only for drinkable water!

Here's a picture of mine, just recently build.

1rst image:This is how the piece comes from the shop, 1 washer on the "outside" that I put looking inside so it fits better.

This is the piece with my custom made washers

Here you can see the difference from the outside, custom made washers go inside and outside, even tho the single washer works, I like to be safe. It def works better with the custom washers

Pump connection

Cheers for sharing Meison, Great looking set up bud!

The parts you've used are really expensive here and i'm looking to build a few of these systems so really need to find an affordable option.

Did you use Snype's spec for the washers? - Neoprene Washer. 3/16" thickness x 1-7/8" ID x 2-1/4" OD Neoprene, Black in 50 durometer.

Thanks for the info )

Hello Snype,
Getting ready to build a couple of your 10 bucket systems. Ive used your material list to do my shopping. I have a couple of questions(hope you don't mind answering). The placement of the Y filter. What picture in this thread shows its correct position? The cut list for building the 10 bucket system. Is the 1.5 inch pipe cut to 8 or 8.5 inches? What is the center to center width of the 2 row 10 bucket system? Last question...center to center distance between the buckets length wise?
Thank You for your time..

Glad that you are going to try out the systems. The Y-Filter goes like this:
picture.php

When you cut the in-line bucket manifolds, the 1.5" PVC is cut to 8" but the manifold is the same as the original 12 bucket system. That manifold gives you 24" centers between rows but I don't know the center dimensions between plants right now. I don't have any systems at the moment. Just trying to get everything together. The 10 bucket system that's listed is made for an 8 foot plant space no including the epicenter.

Snype, great work! :) How about a 4 week veg instead of 2, not much more increase in crop cycle time. Been looking also at 10 gallon Rubbermaid Brute containers, much stronger and tougher than the Roughneck series. They are also NSA approved (at least the grey, white & yellow versions). Here's a link: http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/item.aspx?itemid=24999

Also square containers with lower heights (they'll need to be light-proofed): http://www.erubbermaid.com/food-tote-bx-9-in-deep-12-5-glwhi-6-ctn

No I didn't, I actually had them made to fit the tank adapter I got my hands on. One of the washers is smaller in diameter than the other due to the specs of the tank adapter!

Costs aprox 500$ USS to build a 4 bucket system..insane but really worthwhile

If you wanted to veg longer, you could use these too:

Btw Snype, I couldn't get my hands on a metal mesh filter, instead I got this disk filter and its not working out as the pump 2500lts/h has no pressure.

How do you make it work with the filter on the intake of the pump? The ing back at the place I buy all this crap told me that the filter should go on the outtake of the pump and not the other way around as it might clog and get your pump to overheat and break down

Any tips?

Wow - JACKPOT! :D Thanks Snype. Also found they have an 8 gallon DIY Undercurrent version as well as rain barrels 30-57 gallons. Way cheaper than my 55 gallon source too (I pay $100 each shipped and they have just bung holes that screw shut not easy access removable lids)! Link: http://www.mbferts.com/Pots_c317.htm

The site has those "Uniseals" for their DIY Undercurrent system though not the nice bulkheads you and I use. ;)

Gonna try a new six plant hexagon flower vert setup with 2 600 watt bulbs stacked - 24 sq ft. 4' x 8' hexagon panels will have Orca grow film to help reflect light. Just need to source some 60 degree pvc elbows to connect buckets (which I already found). Won't take up much space either - goal is 2-3 pounds of quality trimmed buds. :) The 6 plant veg/early flower room/area will basically be identical to your setup and materials/instructions. Each plant getting a 16-17" square under T5 lights.

I'm not sure what you mean. Got any pics. The filter goes so that the pump is sucking through the filter before it hits the pump so nothing goes through the pump. When you turn it on for the first time when the pump is dry, it doesn't work well. You have to keep turning the pump on and off to get the water into the pump so it's not running dry.

Thank You for answering my questions and the fast response..!!.. Off to the Hd for more fittings...Hope your up and running soon..Really looking forward to getting your system built and running..!

Hello again....A quick question...Do you have a pic or drawing that shows how the pipe enters/terminates from the H2O pump into the control bucket? Not sure what diameter hole gets drilled into the center of the lid on the control bucket.

Thank You as always

The hole that you drill into the lid of the bucket is only big enough to fit the pipe in. Basically, the 90 degree fitting will rest on the bucket lid and a little piece of about 3" pipe will be going into the hole that you drill which is the same size as the pipe which will most likely be a 1/2" hole.

Hey snype thanks for the reply, but I tried it with the pump and filter full, had water put on top of the pump and filled the system over the tank connectors to be sure it had enough water to run without going dry!

The guys at the place I bought both pump and filter told me the filter is for 1HP pumps with at least 1psi
The pump I bought has no pressure at all

cheers

Thank You....I couldn't tell if the fitting just sat on the lid or if a piece of pipe extended into the bucket...Getting started with assembly today...!!..

even people who have years of growing experience make the mistake of following the directions on nutrient bottles. This can fry your plants.
13 years of growing and just I fried my plants by giving 75% according to Dutch Master's feeding schedule, so you're DAMN RIGHT about this one!

Hello again...Do you have any pics of the 1-1/2" pipe coming out of the control bucket into the first set of buckets..?..Also..Do you have a cut list for the pipes that go from the control bucket to the first set of the buckets..?.. I'm building the 10 bucket system..

Thank You again..
