Snowryder AF Budding Problem

I have a Short Stuff Snowryder AF that I started back in mid-May and am now on day 70 and it doesnt seem to want to develop buds. I have a lot of colas and pistils, but they dont seem to want to be in any hurry to really develop buds. This plant was supposed to finish around this time, but it is not anywhere near ready. Not sure if it is just a pheno parent issue with this seed, or something else is going on, such as nutes, light time, etc. Here are the basics of my grow:

- Short Stuff Snowryder AF
- Autopot using coco & perlite
- Botanicare nutes (using flowing nutes and Liquid Karma)
- Temps in the 70s
- Light cycle 20/4 (changed it to 18/6 a couple nights ago)
- Originally using a 150w HPS light, but had to change to 3 - 42w CLFs due to the plant outgrowing my grow space and into the overhead HPS.

The plant looks really healthy, nice dark green, and is growing well. Lots of colas (which is not necessarily a quality of this specific plant) and like I said, lots of pistils. Problem is its just taking a LOT of time to develop buds.

I dont think I am doing anything wrong, although I am pretty new to this, but not sure why it is taking so long for buds to develop. It just seems to keep growing in size and pistils.

Is it just possible that this one plant/seed has more traits of its parent (Snow White)? Maybe this plant is just going to take longer than usual. Its not a bad problem since it looks like it is going to produce quite a bit (if it finishes!).

Any suggestions? Should I not worry about it and just wait it out? Anything I should change?

While I've never personally experimented with AF's, it's my understanding that most of them are more or less triggered even with shorter night cycles like the standard 18/6.

By my limited reading on it, you can vege under 24-0 but cutting back to 18-6 will induce flowering in most strains.

Your girl looks like she's still in the preflower mode, You say 20-4 lighting? The vast majority of NON AF strains won't even be as far along as your girl at 14-10, hell I've got a couple that hardly even show sex under 18/6, and one thats trying to auto on me even tho it's not an auto-flower!!

Give her a couple weeks to adjust to the change in lighting and see what happens.

On the plus side, at least for this strain, (if you figure out how to get her to bud) you know how to pump up yield! :D

Hey just for information sake, your a little off when it comes to AFs, True AF plants can and will 100% of the time flower and ripen under 24/0 hours of continuous lighting. When they start flowering you can use 20/4 because they seems to enjoy the 4 hours of dark but it is NOT necessary.

Semi-AF plants are the ones that will trigger in very low hours of darkness, 4-10 hours, per day. They have also been known to flower after extended growth periods 70-90 days of vegetative growth. These plants pop up when the True AF genetics haven't been bred well into the new hybrid and are not stable.

By my limited reading on it, you can vege under 24-0 but cutting back to 18-6 will induce flowering in most strains.

This is only true with unstable Semi AFs! True AF strains will not do this.

Your plant seems to be flower bro, just don't expect rock hard buds from it, looks very fluffy from this point. It seems to be very photo sensitive dropping it down to 18-6 or 16-8 might help it flower a bit faster, OR you could just be looking at a very slow flowering AF. In that case all you can really do is go along for the ride and wait for it to finish. Sorry bro!:comfort:

As for Short Stuff they have been working to get larger AFs but through their breeding programs they don't seem to be locking down the True AF gene correctly to make their hybrids 100% True AF. :hide:

Breeding larger AFs is very difficult, OGRE has taken yrs to lock down 100% AF. Just be careful and research your AF seeds before you order.

Snowryder AF Budding Problem

Up to this point I have grown several AFs and they have behaved as advertised, as far as growing time. Ad I mentioned, per Short Stuff this thing should be finished in 8-10 weeks with descent buds. I am well past that and no where near ready to harvest.

Definitely looks like a slow flowering plant. My main concern was whether I was doing something wrong, or was just the luck of the draw with this one seed that the traits were not of the expected Snowryder. Hell, the plant is only supposed to be 10-15 inches. Mine is at 2 1/2 feet and growing!
