Sniffer dogs and vaume sealed jars

Greetings,

This is a wierd question I have for my brother who is going to a hotel in the Las Vegas area that is known to check the bags with sniffer dogs. He has a vacume seald jar with the herb in it. I told him not to worry about it as I think they are looking for explosives, (war on terror stuff)but he is paranoid about it. I said just wash the jar off.

So the question is, would sniffer dogs be able to pick up a scent of cannabis from a vacume sealed jar?

Thanks for putting up with this :rasta:

Actually, yes, they can from what I have read. The odor is able to permiate threw almost anything, including glass and plastics. I don't think all dogs are trained in multiple categories of recognition. So while one dogs task is to hunt for bomb material, anothers would be to locate drugs. Don't quote me on that last part though.

the best way to jar up some dope is to put it in a jar. then take that jar and put it into a jar of peanut butter.

With all due respect, this is false information. If you look into the subject of canine scent perception and biology, you will learn that a dog's sense of smell is 10,000 times greater than that of humans. Also, nearly every possible item used to ship, seal, or conceal marijuana is permeable to some degree. Although humans may detect no scent emanating from a vacuum sealed container, a dog can and regularly does. Masking scents do not work for canines, either, as they process scents different than we do. It is my understanding that canines will smell the masking agent, along with the item being masked, and also your cologne/parfum, your shampoo, what you ate for lunch from the molecules stuck to your fingers, etc etc etc.

Please, do not underestimate a canines sense of smell!

the best advice is to use a vaccume selaed bag, and to clean the bag with ISO after.
let it sit for a day, DONT TOUCH IT!!!

the enxt day (after washing/scrubing your hands) is to washt he bag again with ISO and to double bag it. vacuume seal the 2ed layer and wash it again with iso (alcohol) use latex to carefuly put it into a zipper compartment on the inside of luggage.

im still wondering where ur friend was talking about. must be the airport, always dogs in the airport. never even seen one inside a hotel. and ive been to just about all of them.

The Wynn hotel is what he mentioned.

Digital, do you think your double bagging/alchohol method would get past a dog??

In the airport, I guess the dogs check out the checkin luggage as well. (not the carry on)

it does. although its ability to get past the dog is from the washing with iso (alcohol disolves oils such as THC) and having clean hand free of resin/thc when touching the outside.essentialy the thc/oil on the outside is what triggers the dog.

if you get all this proper you are homefree, unless they physicaly look.

i got a stash past a few dogs with this method.

ive been to LV airport many times, i think that the airport will nab him. not once were my carryone and checkin bags NOT SEARCHED
they all come with the TSA search sticker. even broke a lock on my carron when it took me a moment to find the key...they also xray everything. although that probably dosent matter.

ive not seen one dog at the wynn, but i supose if there was dogs on the strip thats where they'd be.

I rub mine on my fecund bitch here, they may still smell the weed, but they don't care about it any more. Nature trumps training.

canines indeed can sniff out weed in peanut butter...

the thing is though...

the popo's think the canine is after the peanut butter

then advise them to sniff elsewhere

That, along with a cautious triple-or-better vacuum seal with iso washes in between, is about as safe as one could possibly get!

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Haps again.

thats bad misconception.
the cops will try and figure out WHY the dog wanted peanutbutter, and investigate your bag they train with PB, coffee, and other distractions.
idealy you dont want the dog alerting to anything, PB or otherwise. you want them to look at you, smell and go on. no stoping and thinking.

I once went through this checkpoint, I had a fat sack in my pocket except I forgot I had it there, I was just going to get some burgers. We drove by 2 cops with a dog, it was a german shepard like 2 feet away from the car. I was like "Shit!" for that instant I saw the freakin dog. We just drove by and made it to our destination. So they can't smell everything...don't give them too much credit.

Barn Owl, I fly to Vegas a couple times a year on bussiness. I have stayed at the Wynn, MGM, and just about every other hotel out there. In all my years I have never seen a K-9 unit in any hotel in Vegas. That doesnt mean the bags arent checked at the airport in Vegas upon arrival, they very well could be and it wouldnt surprise me a bit. Most of your better hotel's like the Wynn pick-up your bags for you at the airport and take them directly to your room at the hotel, you dont even have to go to baggage claim at the Vegas airport. I have friends there so no need for me to take anything, however, I would never put anything in carry-on or checked bags theres to much bag security ever since 9/11. It's not like the old day's when you could fill-up your bags with whatever you wanted to.

Good luck !

Not all dogs are trained to sniff contraband.

Theres another post I saw here yesterday about drug dogs.

Understanding Police Drug Dogs

All in all, I personally wouldn't worry about hotel security. They are in the business of entertaining and if publicity got out they were having customers arrested for simple possession it wouldn't be good for them. If there are dogs there it would be for explosives or just for plain security.
Drug dogs and training are expensive and what would the payback be for having one at a hotel?

Just my .02 cents

Again, with respect, this is misguided and false information. Please do not believe this and set yourself up for trouble. I would hate for you or anyone else to get busted for believing in a myth. These dogs are highly trained LEO. Thats right, they are treated and viewed as STAFF MEMBERS by LE organizations. They are rigorously trained NOT to be distracted by simple items like food, toys, noises, etc. These dogs have tens of thousands of dollars pumped into their training so that they can complete their mission; to detect drugs, explosives, chemicals, people, or whatever else they have been deigned to search for. Now, I am not saying that these dogs are machines, incapable of making mistakes and performing at 100% of their ability at all times, but it is not worth taking a risk that the dog sniffing your bag is a misfit who performs poorly on the job. When properly concealing MJ for shipment, one should employ a commercial grade vacuum sealer with heavy duty bags. The bagger should don a pair of latex gloves, promply ISO wash those gloves, and then dawn another pair. This could be done in triplicate for extra security. The point of this is to avoid stray molecules from contaminating your bags. Proceed with vacuum sealing, immersing each sealed unit in an ISO bath and allowing to air dry on a sanitized surface. Repeat this bag-n-bath at least two times. Myself, I use 4 bags and on the 3rd, prior to going into the last bag and dip, i coat the bag with petroleum jelly to trap any possible stray airborn particles and i then re-bathe the parcel in ISO to be sure that I remove all traces of contraband. I rely on the slow release of odor molecules from the plastic vacuum sealed bags to keep my shipment stealthy, and always mail overnight. I have never been caught using these methods, and I have been shipping buds across the country for almost a decade, for what it's worth.
