Sneak and Peak of Mail or just coincidence?

I recently ordered a couple of back issues of High Times, and the envelope was opened about a thumbwidth like someone poked a finger in and checked with some small camera or other device what was inside. Granted the f'n boneheads sent it with a big sticker saying "Trans High Corporation" on it, couldn't they at least try to be discreet? If I knew they would do that, I never would have ordered the magazine! If I was some busy-body postlady, I might be tempted to look too. This is not the first time I had partially opened mail, sometimes opened an inch or two. It is not an everyday occurence but fairly regular. Is this something to worry about? Is someone "sneaking and peeking", and if so can I do anything about it? I would think they need a warrant to legally check your mail and if it is just some nosy postlady in a buttfuck town, she could get in trouble for that. But if they had a warrant why just peek in your mail when they could search your whole house? I feel like saying something but if it is just a machine or something doing it on accident, it may cast suspicion on me. So is it just coincidence?

Well, does it look like someone pried it open with their fingers (as in the paper is separated from where it was glued), or is it kinda wrinkled or snagged on the edge?

I've gotten mail back from the post office before in one of their own envelopes, and my letter was either missing a large portion, or was just completely destroyed, looked like the machine ate it or something. They basically said...."uh, sorry....er whatever, sometimes our machines screw up and we process 349811023 pieces of mail a day...blah blah."

So you never know... hope nobody's snoopin though!

If you are in a situation that you do not have much to hide, mess with them. Send yourself multiple letters with like pictures of pot leaves on the envelope and see how many get opened. Then complain to them...

dumbest idea i've ever heard of.

Space, it was most likely just torn a bit in shipping. big envelopes like that usually take a beating going through all the machines n hands. if it were like, ripped and then taped you'd have somethin to worry about. and "trans high corporation" sounds a lot more inconspicuous than High Times, so hehe sounds fine to me. but i still won't ever order a high times in the mail :) peace man

yes it was crumbled a bit all along that side where it was open come to think of it, so maybe a machine. but if I was to be paranoid I would say that only mail that may seem a little out of the ordinary is being opened in this way. I guess it is just machines but this never used to happen like 3 or more years ago.
and yes I am not a HT subscriber and would ordinarily not order, but I was having a weak moment, I just had to have that one with Lougrew's story in it! :D
So I will not do that again, seemed like overkill to have a safe addy for that but I guess I was wrong. NOt that my addy isn't safe, if I was to take HC's advice (I realize it was just a joke) nothing would likely happen. But I just wanted to know how I would know if someone WAS snooping, I guess it would be taped then? OK THANKS

Come on, grow some balls and not the male cannabis balls either. And if you really want to be extra ballsy have it sent to your 500 plant grow house via registered mail. Be sure when the mailman comes, to answer the door to sign for it naked and covered in Vaseline while smoking a joint, just as icing on the cake. Note: include a blueprint of your house and grow room(s) with HPS lighting stats and estimated crop yields inside the envelope too.

I've gotten a lot of mangled mail. I got a magazine that was missing a 'corner'. By corner I mean a triangular chunk of the magazine that was about a 1/4 of the freaking thing.

There's no way to realyl say for sure though. Even a clean opening could just be someone with a sharp thin blade. A crumpled edge could be a clumsy snoop. I'd say the fact that it's a magazine, which is a pretty easily distenguisable package is a good indicator it's just coindicence.

yeah one time someone sent a buddy some seeds, the end of the envelope was open and seeds were rolling around but everything appeared to be there. I once had a vacation brochure from Nova Scotia sent, also in a big bulky envelope larger than the magazine envelope, and that was tattered pretty damned bad and I think it was taped but can't remember now. For me, it seems to only be mail that is out of the ordinary or from another country. But this type of mail, like big bulky magazine envelopes, may be more proned to being damaged by a machine so it may be nothing more than that.

PS. one time a check was sent and that was fully opened. but yet it was not stolen so I think we need some new machines!

I think that your friendly local USPS workers if you are in the US are just extra inept which is saying alot, and possibly extra nosey too.

Yes a small but growing town in US. And I would say it's all just obvious machine problems, but only certain types of mail seem affected. that could just be some big coincidence that those size or type envelopes rip easier or are more prone to damage due to their size. So that's the point of the thread, do you feel it is a coincidence or nosey workers? If it is nosey people, just some bored workers or someone with an agenda looking for things?

Could be an agenda probibly is just nosey people though. You will never know unless you do many suspicious things with the mail to the point a LEO will actually make contact with you. As one back issue of High Times is probibly not going to do it.
