I had to take my dog Corporal Flivers to the vet today and I had to have him put down. I really feel like shit.

I found Corporal Flivers as an almost dead puppy at an illegal dump I was investagating. Someone decided they did not want him and just dropped him off at an illegal dump to die. I had Corporal Flivers for 8 years. He guarded my home with his life. When I was deployed to Afghanistan I knew my home was secure as long as Corporal Flivers was there. Corporal Flivers wa sone of the best dogs I ever had and I feel like I lost a child.

I read this quote in a dog calandar several years ago and liked it so much I printed it and have it hanging in a frame in my office:

"He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion."

I hope I earned the loyalty and devotion that Corporal Flivers gave to me.

Wow, I'm so sorry. Losing a dog is like losing a part of your family. All I can say is that you should try to stay positive. Get another dog as soon as possible and show that dog the same love you showed the Corporal. There is another dog that needs you right now just as much as he did, and you owe it to yourself to stay happy and focus on positivity. I hope this message finds you stoned and blissful.

Your dog sounds like he loved you very much. Now that you have excess love, go find a new pup to hold down the fort while you're away.

I suggest staying away from Jack Russells tho unless you're into hyperness and never-ending running. Not that there aren't better examples of them, but not all of 'em are Wishbone. LOL

German Shepherds rock the house, as well as a pitbull if you own it from a puppy...
I don't suggest taking a pitbull though unless it's a PUPPY!!!!!

And Sharpees (sp?) are nice as well if raised from a pup. GOOD LUCK and may you have a proper burial to commemorate his death if you're able to. PEACE

Man, I feel for you.Feels so empty for awhile, someone who was always there with you by your side ready to dole out unconditional love and loyalty...isn't there anymore, except in your thoughts and memories. In time feelings of sadness and loss will be gradually replaced by the memories of the happy times you shared with your friend. It may not happen soon and it won't happen all at once, but it will happen.

I'm sorry that I had to return the condolences so soon.

Be well.

Thanks y'all.

I live on a small farm along a small river. I had 5 dogs and 2 horses. Of those 7 animals 5 were either abused, neglected, and/or dropped off on me. Over the years I have had some really great dogs and horses. Corporal Flivers was one of the best dogs I ever had. Sooooo to honor his life and loyalty I decided to go down to the Animal Shelter and adopt one they were going to put down. However, this morning I drove to town to get some chow at Jack's and was backing out of the parking lot when I saw a beautiful solid black dog that had been dropped off there and looked half starved. Several folks at the retaurant helped me catch her soooooooooo, She now has a home I am happy to anounce. :jump:

So sorry to hear of your loss. It's like it tore out a piece of your heart out and it went with him. I feel for you Bro! I'm a dog person too. Glad to hear you saved another dog, she'll never take his place...but that's a great start!

May you have the best of times with your new running Buddy!!! Don!

Thanks Don, my new dog will never replace Corporal Flivers but has already earned a special place in my heart. I feel pretty lucky to have found her.
