smell of pure terps?

anyone here bought pure individual terps to smell?

so far, i've collected alpha and beta pinene, linalo-ol, beta myrcene, alpha and beta caryophyllene (alpha being humulene)... and terpinolene, iirc but i can't find it lol

one of the pinenes smells like pine (alpha, iirc), the other smells fruity (beta, iirc),

the caryophyllenes smell the same as eachother (think black pepper without the pepper... the herbal, woody smell i love from pepper but not the pungency aka spiciness) but from heaven (humulene smells a little more subdued in the herbs and spices department), and they get more complex and "nose crinkly" (thanks notsodog) as they oxidize... more like woody cedery but more wild and funky as time goes on;

terpinolene smells like fruity bubblegum from outer space...

myrcene is what this is about;

all these websites and charts and crap say (not all of them, some) it smells like fruit, especially mango... completely bogus;

it smells like an oil or a solvent, or rubber or plastic, rubber cement? maybe unscented soap... hard to pin down but it isn't pleasant... nothing like mango (which often don't have much myrcene in them, from what i've seen), and not fruity in the least. linalo-ol kinda smells the same, except with the signatur lavender flowery smell on top (real lavender has a much more complex, herbal, fruity smell but there's that immutable lavender signature).

anyone else done the pure terp thing? did i get bunk myrcene? i doubt it, just looking for other thoughts on the matter.

(incidentally, i happen to doubt the trope that myrcene is a sedative or muscle relaxing... unless it kicks in hours later during the dumb lethargic burnout phase, but even then... why do so many sativas have it? like even pure sativas that are considered zippy, clear minded, no comedown weed... tons of myrcene all over sativa-dome. myrcene seems to give me an uncomfortable chest pressure/ energy that i hate)

Very interesting friend. I haven't paid that much attention to the subject. How do they harvest their samples for testing.

Interesting.. where do you get them from? I have a collection of essential oils that I use for massage - but they all contain a mixture of different constituents.

Not sure which websites you are talking about. But this one seems to agree with you.

But despite popular claims, myrcene does not seem to register dominantly in mangoes. Available data indicates that 3-carene, limonene, terpinolene, and pinene, are among the dominant terpenes in most cultivars.

I think the more common association is hops, would you say it smells like beer?

not sure. do you mean the weed? i've seen a buncha terp test results from different sources. or do you mean the terps? i had always assumed they were synthetic.

iiirc, i bought them from amazon... been prolly 5 years, i'll have to find where i put the rest of them and smell them... the only one i have out is humulene and it gets less pleasant as time goes on.

i've seen FDTs i think that supposedly have isolated terps online, not positive but i might seek out a new set at some point.

hmm... not really, but it's been many months since i've cracked it open.

but then beer has that sweet malty thing going on, and hops to me have a complex smell... sometimes piney, sometimes fruity, etc. and i think a lot of trace compounds (in weed, as well) can make for complex and surprising aromas that are hard for me to characterize.
