Smell Escaping Homemade carbon filter with stanley blower

I built my carbon filter with a jar of wal mart aquarium carbon. It consists of four furnace filter with fiberglass sheets with carbon in them. Two sheets are on the bottom two sheets are on the top and the carbon is in the middle.I hot glued them with only two pokets for carbon on each pad to keep the air flowing through the carbon. This is glued to a cut up sterlite container lid that is taped in to the top of a filing cabinet that sets on top of another small filing cabinet that mathces the opening perfectly.I have about two feet that is sealed up between the carbon filter and the fan. The fan does not seem to pull air slow enough through the carbon. I purposely put it this far away to keep my fan from speeding up more than it is made for. I still smell some skunk smell, should I make two layers of carbon fliter like a box or scrap the whole idea.

There is peace of mind when using a quality factory built unit. Buy a larger one than you think you will need, because you will, and the smaller one will collect dust in a corner somewhere.

The factory unit with an appropriate rated inline fan will do the job, you can't filter air if it passes to slowly across the carbon medium. Save your money and buy the "right Stuff".

Happy Growing and Peace

Sup mauii,

Try this.......very cheap........Get some Pinesol. . . . .small bucket filled with

h20. . . . . . . . .Add some pinesol to water. . . . .I would do 1/4 cup per gal. . .

. . . .Add more depending on strength of smell..........place fan near

bucket.....turn on......and good to go.

............Hope that helps!

you can only mask the odor so much with things like the pinesol trick. not sure if you forgot this but... using a Air Pump, and putting a Air Stone in a bucket of pinesol is how u do it. works better.

but, then ur house smells like pinesol... a little weird imo? 24/7 pinesol lol.

why not just get a real fan, and a real carbon filter like most growers do, odor control is one of those things you should not skimp on.

and i cant imagine breathing in pinesol fumes all day is healthy for us???

Check the threads... plenty ways to build a better filter than using hot glue. Probably will cost you less too.

Fan too fast? use a damper. I would still rebuild.

Put pinesol in a bucket of water with an airstone and you'll have tons of bubbles overflowing your bucket.

Why do the pinesol thing??? hmm.......total operating cost.......$3.49 or less

It's cheap, simple and it works and there's no unstealthy issues like, more noise from fans.

OK, do I understand that your carbon filter is two feet away from your fan? The fan has to pull directly through the filter in order to work. File cabinets ain't made air tight, ducts are.
