smartpot irrigation

hi there, i am new to soil and outdoor growing, but have a place to do it now, so i am preparing some soil pots soon and i am wondering about water use. i have made some small homemade shadecloth pots with chicken wire cages. about 200 litres or 50 gal, i live in a really hot dry part of aust and need to maximise the use of water, it will be an outdoor bush grow, so i wont have unlimited water onhand. would it be useful to coil 10mm poly pipe, with holes every 6 inches/drip line, up thru the pot as i fill it with soil? so then i can fill a small water header tank on top, turn it on at the best time to water and it will seep water/nutes to all depths of the pot slowly, instead of top watering and evaporation issues. or is this a harmful way to go? thanks for any ideas on how to water deeply. oz :tumbleweed:
