Do your brain a favor and give at least one of these products a go. I've used them for 5 months and I notice the positive effects daily.

Ginkgo Biloba -- 2 per day, lasts 120 days - $12.00 (including s/h)

Dual Ginseng -- 1-2 pd, 60+ days - $13.40 w/ s/h

L-Tyrosine -- 1 pd, 100 days - $10.40 w/ s/h

Others worth noting: St Johns Wort (anxiety, emotional well-being [downside: more prone to sun burn]), Ashwaghanda (fights stress, normalizes body function, strengthens immune syst), Bee Pollen (energy, "nature's most complete health food"), Gotu Kola (energy, vascular system, promotes even blood flow [downside being dosage [4 pd / 25 days] - at least the price is extremely low-$7 w/ s/h]), Spirulina ("superfood"), Broken Cell Wall Chlorella (vitamins, minerals, amino acids and antioxidants, includes chlorella)

These plants have been used for thousands of years... The effects are not placebo, but fact.

well ginkgo, if anything, improves memory and that about it (increase blood flow to the brain) also has some benefits if suffering from alzhiemers but otherwise the effects are minimal

ginseng, screw any extract, get good whole root (or as big pieces as you can find) and make tea or grind only what you are going to use, gel cap it and take it like that
good ginseng though costs a lot

and unless your diet sucks or something else is wrong there is no need to be takin l-tyrosine
maybe if you are really low on dopamine it will help but unless not, your body prefers other forms of protein/amino acids to use (the same reason you dont want to take 5-htp or the like with protein)
st. johns wort is also a weak anti-depressant and has some other side-effects which should be researched if one is serious about using it to combat mild depression

ashwaganda is good stuff though
but once again, get whole roots or root chunks and do it yourself (grinding, etc), herbs like that work much much better
also it can cause some drowsiness so takin ashwaganda before sleep to begin with is usually a good idea (it can also potentiate opiates somewhat, and help with withdrawls a bit)

The Dual Ginseng (American / Korean) has a strong kick to it. The Ginseng makes me significantly more alert. Don't diss the extract, especially if you haven't tried it yet! I agree with your assessment of L-Tyrosine. However, I have tested it 50 days and saw a noticeable increase in memory recall/acuity, but that is only anecdotal evidence. I use Brewer's Yeast and L-T as a supplement for my dog's diet. I've noticed a sizable difference in my dog's mood and energy. I've also heard St. John's Wort is a blood thinner, so that could be another risk.

It's good to see someone giving advice on the natural way to go... way to go, major props. If I could get the whole root, I would be happy to try it that way, but this is the cheapest, fastest, and most effective alternative I've come across. Swanson shouldn't be confused with other generic herbal supplement suppliers. Swanson provides the best value when all factors are considered.

BTW, Yummy, if you're reading this - BUY ASHWAGANDA. lol

i like mountainroseherbs.com

Eleutherococcus senticosus (siberian ginseng) is another good one, but i've tried many extracts and none were comparable to good panax ginseng root (quinqefolis is alright but i like the asian variety more, although in TCM they say the one is ying and the other yang/one is "hot" (the asian) and the american variety is "cold" but w/e)

I drink black tea and green tea almost every day with those added herbs. Definately noticeable, definately not placebo.

I think this may be one of the better supplements out there for heavy tokers of the herb...

As I understand it, the 'slowness' you can get from smoking a lot of herb doesn't technically harm or permanently damage your brain in any way; what it can do is deplete the myelin sheath on the nerve cells in various parts of your brain and body. Apparently this supplement is designed to target just that. Not affiliated w/ them in any way...I do take the product and I think it works very well.
