Smallest pot size I can get away with?

Hey all,

Titles says it...want to do Zamaldelica, Panama and Panama/Malawi outdoors but space and stealth is a concern.

What's the smallest size pot I can get away with for good yields? I will use fabric pots in hopes it'll be nicer on the roots.

Thanks fellow ace fiends....:tiphat:

Myself if you can dig them into the ground. I would go t least 15 gallon bags. 35s if you don't mind doing the digging. Then top or tie down. Just my thoughts. Peace

For plants I want to control a 10L is the minimum I use.
Most of mine are in 20L or 25L pots.

deepwaterdude/ulmw - this apply to outdoors? as these sizes were what I was kinda hoping for...thanks!

I think the answer depends a lot on how big will the plants be when flowering is initiated.

If you veg for months and are ending up with 12' monsters... you need a big pot.

If the plants would only be a couple feet when flowering starts, 3 gallon would probably be all you need.

Try and get an idea of how much veg time you will have.

3-5 gallons will work but the yield will suffer significantly and you'll end up with thin overly stretched out plants.

Ive had bad experiences with root restriction on sativas, unless youre flowering directly from seed/clone, it stunts lateral growth and promotes vertical elongation. I wouldnt grow a sativa in anything under a 5 gallon anymore myself and thats if im trying to pack them in close and running higher numbers to phenohunt.

If yield is a consideration then ideally in the ground... or 400 gallons. 45-100 gallons will still yield great. Like farmerlion said 15-35 gallons is a good median range and not stunt the growth.

But like stoned face said, It really all depends on your season and how long they will be growing/streting/flowering

cool, so I might go for 10-15 gallon for the sativas and perhaps a little less for any indica hybrids (kali china etc) - trying to keep it so I can move them around and stealth them in the vegie garden etc so the 100+ gallon might be a little epic! They may be smaller but I'll be able to do some extras to make it up.

Thanks heaps

oh, btw, I would LOVE to do them in mega pots or in ground and let them go....laws need to change!

Are you planning on using coco or soil? You can get away with using very small pots in coco with no negative effects.

I was planning on an organic soil grow...I've seen some fat beauties in 5 gal buckets using coco that almost converted me!

Zamaldelica x Kali China clones in 3 and 5gal

Zamaldelica x Kali China clones in 3 and 5gal

This AM after 20 degree night freezing their 'nads off under frost cloth. They'll get to see the end of the month if forecasts are correct, but cold has limited fatness. The plant on left is 3 gal coco mix, the fatter one on right 5gal coco/soil mix, which did much better, kept plant greener. Very different phenos, exactly as big as I wanted them, given conditions;) You can see the mid September cold had its effect on yield.

First pic is Aug 2.

2 and 3 are Aug 11

4 and 5 are Aug 19

6 is Aug 25

7, 8 are sep 6 and 11

9 is sep 27 (cold already by sep 19)

10 is today AM.

You'd do fine in 5-7 gal outdoor in warmer weather than mine. Sorry for the long post, fun to see their evolution:biggrin:

Hi nksv,

You can grow clones in 3 liter pots and still get a few decent flowers, but i would recommend to use at least 7-10 liter pots, obviously outdoors the bigger the better.

oh wow, that's all? Cool. I managed to get my Panama in a 70L fabric, plan to do same for Zamaldelica and smaller for Kali China, 35L.

Might sneak a few clones around the place! haha
