slooowww germination

hello all. This is my first question here.
ive usually had great success when germinating, cloning, and sprouting, etc. i havent had any girls growing for a couple years now.

I went to germinate the seeds i had from a few years back, with a very skeptical attitude.
out of like 20-30 seeds, only about 3 popped.
at first i believe it was a little cool for them, 68-70 degrees. (on top of the hot water heater) after 3-4 days i moved them to a warmer environment. (a light left on in a small room) temps stayed about 70-75.

the two that have first opened.... they didnt seem to sprout taproots and shoot them out, rather, they sort of popped open the external seed shell, swelled a little, and developed little cotyledons inside the shell casing. i carefully pulled it out of the casing after about 4 days without expanding out like they normally do, and planted it..

its been about 4 more days and its still not come out the surface(i just barely put it under the soil.) i dug down a little... and ive noticed some growth, but its very slow.

---> basically, why is my growth being so slow. is it old seeds? is it the rough(cold) start, too much water and not enough perlite in the soil (which i know my mix needs more perlite now), what could it be?

thanks for reading all this.

I had the same problem a few months ago... It turned out that the seeds were to old... I've had em for 3 or so years, bagseeds from some great smoke... They were stored at room temps so that was another mistake.
Eventually three of 9 popped but they were slow at start... Two actually made it and turned out female and were good smoke...

Sorry, dude, i wish you better luck next time...

i was figuring seed. im suprised they even germinated.
they were great strains.
but stored in a safe in an attic for 2 years......

most likely too cold. if water doesnt condense inside you container you germed em in, its too cold. need to be at least 75-80 degrees.

that was my suspision at first. i moved them to a warmer spot and more popped.

now, with the few that have taproots growing, i dont see much progress at all.

the one with cotyledons has been sitting just below the surface for a few days.. maybe the roots are growing but i dont think much. its not rotting though.
and the one with the shell still attached, its barely moving.. though i know the taproot has been growing like crazy..

i think any subsequent germs will be with good seed, in a warmer environment, and put in a good light "soiless" mix to sprout.

so, cold temps, and old seeds both contribute to really slow growth?
what about overwatering? that too? my roommate watered them again and it was too soon.
