Slide Guitar Help...

H

Hal

Hey,

I'm trying to teach myself some slide guitar basics. I am a beginner all around, haven't taken any lesson yet for any guitar style.

Is anyone familiar with any youtube lessons on the slide that are more quality than the rest? I'm looking for something that shows me some scales using slide in open tunings....right now I'm messing with an open G.

Any help would be much appreciated. :rasta:

couple of things about slide guitar

best played with a flat neck guitar, curved necks make it harder to play
when my son plays slide he prefers his Ibanez to his fender as Ibanez has a flatter neck
a guitar with a high action also better than a low action

Hey Pink,

Thanks for responding dude. Great point about the curve in the neck, I now have an old Yamaha acoustic (FG 160) dedicated to open G tuning, and I just checked how flat it is....holy shit was it ever curved (this is a curve from high E to low E, not the length of the neck BTW).

And I had noticed it when I was playing bad slide on it too, but I never imagined the curve would be so pronounced. I checked my other Yamaha (SJ 180) and it too has a major curve. I am looking at getting a brand new acoustic soon, and the SJ will then be devoted to a different open tuning. I wonder, is there a fairly easy fix to this situation? It seems like it might occur rather frequently, and it seems like someone maybe will have come up with a solution....like a nut/saddle combo that would acount for the curve and keep the strings flat. I really like the 2 Yammies I have, and I think they would be great for slide, so I'm hoping I can fix them so they work good.

Any thoughts?

modifying a guitar to play slide on is a major hassle
better buying a cheap flat neck guitar as the action isn't important more the flatness of the neck
