Skunk Special - Nirvana

I bought one pack of 10 Nirvana Skunk Special seeds. Had a miss-hap and only got 3 seeds to pop. Only one was female, but it was jurasic.

Breeder: Nirvana
Strain: Skunk Special (discontinued?)
Grower: closed4fishing
Grow Info:
400W DWC, Co2, Advanced Nutrients Connosieur, Big Bud, Overdrive and Carboload. 2 Weeks veg, 9 weeks flower with 14 day flush. Dried 6 days and into jars for curing. Dry weight around 5.5oz, height 40"
Cure at time of smoke test:
21 days (I'll post another next month if it's a big difference)

Bag Appeal: A-
It's actually quite covered in trichs but it doesn't look all that special. While growing however, it was awesome. Huge baby-waist sized main cola and 7 or 8 side colas that were very thick. It was a true jungle plant and it's amazing it worked in the bloombox so well.
Smell:
Not much of a smell unless you squish a piece. Sort of earthy and not much else.
Taste:
The taste caught me by surprise. After 7 days, I thought it was sort of bland but I just packed one after 21 days of curing and the difference is night and day. The taste is slightly musky with a little citrus. Not the best taste, but super smooth and you can take a huge toke. The weird thing is you don't cough but 15 minutes later your throat is dry, raspy and soar. Weird!
Effect: Hybrid effect, pretty even body/mind stone. At first it hits me behind the eyes and gets me thinking, then it settles in and wears off slowly over a few hours. Right after smoking, if I get a job started, I find myself doing an extra good job and paying special attention to detail. Maybe a little motivating? :headbange

Final thoughts:
I didn't expect the nice results I got from Skunk Special. It was super easy to grow, it grew like a flippin crazy jungle plant and it yielded over 5oz in a DWC bloombox with 400HPS. It tastes pretty nice, has low odor and has a great high. This would be perfect for a commercial cropper. Maybe even for those days you don't feel like being blasted and just want a more relaxing responsible weed that only when over done will put you on the couch. I didn't reveg unfortunately and it looks like Nirvana pulled the Skunk Special line. If I see seeds again, I'll buy a pack for the future!

Hope you enjoyed it. If you could spare a little +rep for a brotha, I'd certainly appreciate it. :respect:

Peace be with you!

Nice report, I also ran through some nirvana strains my last grow. They did out decent, however, not the type of dank I prefer to smoke. 5 oz, 400w, one plant? or with all 10 beans?

nice job. that skunk special seems to be some enjoyable weed. btw is that a bcnl product i see? Whats your opinion on the bloombox? how long have you had it? Whats your experience and what would you change about it..if anything?

That is a bcnl bloombox. I've had it about a year and a half. It's very stealthy but with the air pump on, it can be a bit louder than you'd think. Swapping out the air pump for a quieter one and using some foam or padding under the mounting might help that though.

As to how it performs, I'd say spectacularly and exactly as advertised. With the right strain and a little practice (maybe 1 or 2 runs) you should be able to dial in 8oz every 8 weeks very easily. I haven't tried to produce that much yet because I don't need that much but it could easily pull 8oz.

Of course it does better with shorter plants but I've ran some medium tall strains and they did fine. The tallest was probably 4ft. They just end up hitting the glass and you coax them to grow away from the light along the glass. Then they really get big lol. That's what happened with that skunk special. Had to bend her a little.

The vegging side is a bit small and if you are using the seed dome it blocks half the plant baskets from getting full light. They still do really well in there and don't stretch looking for light if you do it right. I usually raise the resevoiur off the floor with books or buckets to get the plants closer to the light and then remove books while the plants grow to keep them nice and short.

If I could give them suggestions, I would say this:

  • offer a built in t-5 supplemental lighting option in the flowering unit. even though the buds at the bottom still get fat and chunky, it often seems shadowy so I'm sure it could get even better.
  • offer a split resevoiur option for the flowering chamber so you can run multiple strains with different flowering times. You can't really run an 8wk with a 10 wk unless you want that 10wk strain to have 4 weeks of flushing.
  • offer a sliding platform for the resevoiur in the flowering chamber. This would allow you to move the plants closer to the light. If it was done with a little crank outside the machine, it would be pretty slick.
  • Built in thermometer and hygrometer for temp and humidity stats in each chamber.
  • Not sure if this is possible but a built in humidifier or ability to hook one up easily to the air intakes. I use a 2gallon machine in my the room the machine is in and it takes about 1.5gal a day for 50% humidity in a 10x12 room.

So yeah man, if you have the money and don't have the skill or time to build your own, the bloombox rocks. It's pretty pain free and automated and I often leave for 2, 3, even 5 days camping without much worry. The royale package comes with enough nutrients for 1yr supposively and I still have about 1/3 left after 1.5 years so that's nice.

That's probably more than you wanted to know but I figured I would give my :2cents: because I was looking for reviews all over before I bought mine. It's a lot of moola but in my opinion, it can pay for itself easily in under 1yr.

Peace!

Nice yield and report indeed!
Can't wait to cut mine down, the effects sound just perfect for my needs atm. Especially being able to pay extra attention is what I am looking forward to.

Did you take a closer look at the trichomes before harvest? If so, I would really appreciate if you shared that with us :bandit: and did the buds build up alot in the last few weeks?

Hey Closed-
Gypsy is offering Nirvana's Skunk Special for $24.30 US.
I grew it out a few years ago, mellow smoke, average potentcy.
