Skinny stem at base of otherwise healthy young plants..

Ok, I popped a bunch of seeds a few weeks back and didn't have the space under the light, so some went in front of the window, but the lighting wasn't adequate apparently, as they shot up 3-4 inches in a few days, but only had the same amount of leaves as the one inch plants.. After a few days of torture and humiliation, the babies were finally able to join the rest of the plants under an hps bulb..

This happened to 10-12 plants out of more than 60 that stretched out like crazy. Anyone have tips on how to approach this? The upper stem keeps getting fatter and the plants look nice, but I feel that soon the weak spots will give. I was thinking of some rooting hormones on the skinny spot and burry it under the coco? Thoughts? Thanks very much

This happens to me all the time with seedlings & low light. Get taller pots and transplant them up to the base. Those stems will eventually grow roots & they'll be fine, you're biggest danger is obviously not busting the tiny part of the stem when you transplant.

Agreed. Just bury them to about 1-2" from the base of the leaves when you transplant and they will be fine. You already know why they stretched. Inadequate lighting. A fan in the room will help to strengthen the stem and make transplant easier

Cool thanks very much guys.. I've popped about 350 seeds but only seen this once, and the stalk broke much later, when the plant was about 2 feet tall. These babies will get buried manana..mucho appreciated

I agree with with above posters but you can mitigate this issue further by suplementing with agsil and mix spectrum lighting.
