So, I live in the Bay Area. My sister, who lives halfway across the country, is going to be in town next week for a work conference. We haven't seen each other in about 15 months, and she wants to take a one- or two-day detour my way.
The problem with this is, it is the peak of the outdoor season and my back yard is literally stuffed with plants. There's no hiding 'em, it's a jungle back there. My sister doesn't know about this part of my life and I don't want her to know about this part of my life, so a visit to my home isn't really an option. Unfortunately, I've already put her off once this year and am concerned about doing so again without seeing her.
I'm thinking of telling her I'm having the place fumigated during the two-day window of her visit, so she/we won't be able to hang here. Staying with a buddy, but happy to meet wherever she's staying. Sound plausible?
Anyone else ever find themselves in a similar situation--needing to keep a relative away from your home? It's a bummer but unfortunately, it's necessary.
