Silver Star reflector measurements?

I have a C25 I'll be setting up this weekend, and I wanted to use a Silver Star air cooled hood in it, but it's gonna be tight to say the least. Does anyone have exact measurements on this hood. If it really is 22x22, I'm probably SOL :badday:

It's actually roughly 29" x 22", taking into account the AC flanges. If you factor in the extra length on top of that necessary for the ducting to attach, you're looking at 36" (even with a very tight 90 degree angle piece)+

I decided to modify the cabinet and extend it about 2" deeper to fit the hood depth wise (since I'm going to replace the cardboard backing with real melamine anyways). Now I guess I'll have to have some ducting running through the side of the box. Just have to hide it as best as possible. Thanks for the heads up guys.

The Silver Star is probably not an ideal reflector for such a small space. You'd probably get better performance out of a smaller, more "downward" reflector such as a Daystar (AC). :2cents:

Are those two loonies or two cents?
Wait...they have to be cents :)
I wonder if that emoticon was made just for icmag...we seem to use that slang a lot around here.

Anyways, about the silverstar. I completely agree with clowntown on this one. The footprint of a silverstar is VERY large, and gives an incredible amount of coverage. This is not ideal when working with a small space (i.e. light is dispersed onto the walls instead of directly downward). You can keep the light as close as possible to the plants to help minimize the outward illumination, but that just means you'd need more cooling performance.

I went with the silverstar because I got a good price on it and I wanted to be able to upgrade to a bigger bulb later on (I'm using it for a 400 watt).

Good luck with everything,
JC

I agree it is too large for the setup. It seems that on all of my projects I go "too big" because I know later down the road I will regret going smaller. It's too late as I've already ordered the setup with a 6" vortex. If I have to I'll ditch the cab and make the light work. Wood/melamine is cheap, thankfully! Thanks for your input guys, I really do appreciate it!!

I read clown's thread on the best reflector/hood and I took it to heart as I always invest more in quality over quantity. :chin:

haha, ya, clowntown has been a great source of knowledge (and inspiration) to me, and after reading his thread on the silverstar I purchased it.
It is too large for my hydrohut mini (with 90 degree elbows it is still 1 inch too large, making the tent poke out a bit), but the thing is built to last.

It is coated 100% on the inside with reflective material (top and sides), and the double-paned glass is easily removed by sliding it out, making cleaning a breeze.
It came pre-wired with a mogul socket, and the wires are conveniently routed up through a small hole to the top of the hood (not through your ducting), where you can connect your ballast to. There's even a little rubber gasket that you tighten around your wires so that the weight of the hood does not put stress on your connections and rip something apart.

You'll be happy with the purchase, I know it. Make sure to give clowntown some rep. as well.
