Silicone Sealant?

I lined the seams of a box with silicone sealant, but later read that aquarium safe silicone is the only type that should be used because of the fungicides or whatever. I was going to put wood over where the silicone is for the frame, but is it that much of an issue? Should I scrap what I have?

Thats mostly true. What you want to use is a 100% pure silicone, meant for windows & doors. Off the top of my head, I want to say its ge II that is safe.. use common sense and read the label on the tube. It will list fungicide.

The moniker about not for use in aquariums is more so for the idiots that try to seal a 200+ gallon tank with standard silicone and have catastrophic seam failure.

It is GE I that is 100% Silicone. Same as the stuff labeled for aquarium/potable water.

GE II contains the anti-mildew agents.

The "not for use in aquariums" IS due to fungicides leaching out and killing your fish. Only 100% silicone is safe for potable water (drinking/aquarium/hydroponic).

Since you just hit up the seams you are fine. If you had constructed a reservoir or put together a hydro system with it, then you would have to scrap it.
