Should I cut off these branches?

I got a few clones this week from dispenseries and am doing my first grow. A few of them are from the same cloner (different strains) and both had the lowest leaf discolored (brownish or at least a different shade of green). After 3-4 days they have started to shrivel up and seem to have dried out or something. I was thinking it would be best to just clip them off now, but I don't know much. The plants are pretty young, around 4.5-5" tall with a fairly thin stem.

Was also looking for advice on when to switch to HPS (currently under a T5). I was thinking 1 week on the older one and 2 weeks for the younger pair.

By the way I should also mention I have a separate and finished 6x5x7.5 space I'm going to be converting into a the main veg/flower chamber today and later this week when I get more materials.

Yep. Clean 'em up. They're not adding anything at this point, and probably increasing your chance of pests/disease.

Best of luck.

Does anyone know anything about plants using lower leaf sets as a place to put waste?, I see the colors turn really fast with deficiencies and nute burn, things not wanted or needed gets pumped into those lower leaf sets until the stem draws back and the dead leaf drops. Might be helpful to know if plants aren't healthy but these ones look good to me.

They could also be stocking the leaf with components to get broken down organically when falling to the ground so as to feed the next generations. Few people, or no people, grow this way so it's a waste leaving the plant having to fool with them.

So I moved them into the area I'm going to be using for grows. I did notice some very small white spots today though, which has me a little worried it may be the first sign of powder mildew. I'm going to get some gentle insecticide later today regardless so hopefully I won't have to deal with bugs ever. The pics didn't do a good job of showing the white spots though, you can barely see any of them at all.

By the way I've been doing a 20/4 light cycle under the T5, hope that isn't too much.

once the leaf turns from green its losing its life andshuting down and wasteing energy till it fully dies. proper maintanence of plants to help reduce pest infestations is keeping your plants and room CLEAN of dead foliage especialy ..dying folliage attracts bugs to them as a sort of inviting dinner bell. btw the clones look nice and healthy !

I transplanted into 5 gallon buckets with holes drill in them today. They are those $2.50 orange ones at Home Depot, I think I went over board with that size. Things are kinda heavy when full of moist soil.

I'll add some more pics when I get the setup correct (the pre-stripped cord I got from the hydro store doesn't fit with my Phantom ballast, doh!! Was going to start subjecting these ladies to 600 watts of hps tonight, going to have to wait until tomorrow now.

May have been a tad early on potting them up to 5gal. containers.
I generally go from a 20oz cup>1gal>3gal>5gal

I concur on cleaning them up and they look healthy :tiphat:

Just realized the reason why the cord didn't fit is because my ballast didn't come with the conversion plug, which is clearly on the box. Hopefully the hydro store doesn't hassle me about this.

So I transplanted into some Aurora Roots Organic and it burned my plants, oh well I guess I won't use nutes for a week or so until they come out of it.

Good info in this thread.

My little seedlings have some brown/yellow/crispy bottom leaves and I was wondering I should should trim them or leave them.

Now I know I should trim them off. :)

Good luck with your grow!

my experience is that if you got roots showing out your cubes, your all good, get rid of the crispy leaves
but those yellowing leaves not crispy or curled up... nuts are still being pulled from them to make roots if not a root system yet...

my experience, and my hort prof would teach us this way... he would say it's about when the leaf Bank Vault is emptied...

Here is a look at the current setup, I'm going to try and convert this thread into a noob diary...all plants seem to be recovering from the yellow tips already, pretty surprised and happy about that.

Hollands Hope is the first individual pic, seems pretty healthy outside of the one leaf, think I might have a heavy feeder on my hands. The Flo in the middle looked funky when I got it but all of the new growth is quite healthy, definitely going to make a bunch of clones of that before I flower it. Also check out how long and strait those Pakalolo leaves are :)

Thanks, I actually confirmed there was some powder mildew on a few of the plants I got from a particular dispensery so I had the isolate to "good" ones.

I treated the infected plants with a cheap method posted by a mod years ago. 50% hydrogen peroxide, 20% water, 30% isopropyl alcohol (70%). Sprayed the plants down, let it sit for a few minutes, then rinsed them off with 70% water and 30% hydrogen peroxide. Then I put a few fans on them to let them dry.

I just want to get rid of them at this point, so have left them in darkness since, going to check on them tonight or tomorrow. If the powder mildew is gone I'll start a flowering schedule. Not sure if I'll be able to salvage the Oahu genetics or not...I would like to take some clones but I'm worried the clones will all get powder mildew and I'll end up tossing them and/or infecting others.
