"Shoe Weed" Briton Pardoned

Dubai - A British man sentenced to four years in jail in the Gulf emirate of Dubai for having a tiny amount of cannabis stuck to his shoe has been pardoned, a newspaper reported on Tuesday.

Andrew Brown was released early from prison in the Western-orientated emirate which is a popular destination for British tourists, the English language 7Days reported, without stating how much of the jail term he served.

The 43-year-old was arrested in September at Dubai International Airport after customs officers found 0,003g of cannabis on the sole of one his shoes.

The UAE imposes tough penalties for all drug-related offences. Four years is the usual sentence for possession while trafficking carries the death penalty.

The Gulf News reported on February 19 that a Dubai court had sentenced British dance DJ Grooverider to four years in prison for drug possession.

The newspaper said 2,16g of marijuana was found in his luggage at the airport in November when he arrived to perform a gig in the emirate. - Sapa-AFP

why would anyone even try to bring weed somewhere that is illegal like that. Is it worth 4 years in jail just to bring 2 grams of weed into UAE

The death penalty for trafficking? Four years for holding less than an eighth?
With penalties like that, I'll never set foot in the UAE.

Take your own advice.

The 43 year old was arrested for having 0.003g stuck to his shoe (smaller than a sugar crystal.) This is the person that was pardoned. (Obviously unintentional possession.)

The DJ had 2.16g in his luggage, I don't think that was a mistake. I'm not sure why the last two sentences were included with this story, it's a completely separate incident.

I sure as hell don't agree with UAE's stance on drug possession, but if you're traveling to another country you should educate yourself on the laws.

What he said

although 0,003g i dont think that hardly classifies as possession.

Anything that can be used to SMOKE ON can be clarified as possiession. Can you smoke 0,003g???? NO! Then its NOT possession

FUck them niggas for tough penalties like that
