SHIVARATRI- a night dedicated to prayers to LORD SHIVA. A day when sadhus and babas from INDIA AND NEPAL come to PASHUPATHINATH Temple in KATHMANDU NEPAL, to celebrate and pray to LORD SHIVA. On this day no one is exempt from being able to partake in bhang, ganja, or lassi.. A day that cannabis laws DO NOT EXIST! Cannabis was made illegal 35 years ago in Nepal when the USA government payed the KING 40million$ to make it illegal so tourist would stop smuggling hash out. But this auspicious day, a day of celebrating Shiva and ganja no one is scrutinized. FEB 23 this year in KATHMANDU.

What a rush seeing this photo. I spent years in Kathmandu, on and off, 67 through 74. It really was a paradise in 67, in many ways, but by 74 the traffic and pollution were getting bad. So they made cannabis illegal there after I left? My, my. Those 'temple balls' were something. Used to smoke and sing bhajans in the evening with some locals. And the sandalwood string incense . . . mmmmm . . . the smell of it still sends me back there.
