Shipping seeds in summer heat

Has anybody noticed reduced germination rates on seeds that were shipped in the middle of a hot summer? Should seeds be ordered/shipped when temperatures are cooler outside?

One way to deal with the many unknowns is ...

ship to a Mail Center that has a lot of PO boxes.

Usually the USPS delivers those BIG loads earlier in the day.

Another option - renting a PO box at the post office. Then you don't have to worry about seeds getting hot in the mail van.

I've bought most my seeds in summer

and thats my biggest fail to germ ..time

Otherwise, order during the cooler months and if ya can watch that mailbox like a hawk getting mail as soon as its dropped.

I'm more concerned about seeds sitting in a hot mail box than an air conditioned office or delivery vehicle.

very true.

No good doing ALL THAT WORK (it's usually not as easy as ordering from Amazon) and then losing a whole batch or part of a batch, if the seeds end up sitting in a metal mail box in the sun.

I was worried that it might get hot in transit.

But if it's just the mailbox to worry about, I might paint it white or put a shade over it to keep it cooler.

Still, sounds like it's just better to ship in cooler months. But i'm impatient!
