Sheriff Baca says state's medical marijuana program has been hijacked by criminals, citing triple slaying
September 1, 2010 | 1:32 pm
Sheriff Lee Baca said Wednesday that the recent triple murder in West Hollywood during an illegal sale of medical marijuana is another example of how the industry has been taken over in part by enterprising criminals.

“The medicinal marijuana program that voters authorized years ago has been hijacked by underground drug dealing criminals who are resorting to violence in order to control their piece of the action,” Baca said.

He said the criminal element has flooded the business because of the outrageous profits to be made. “There are predators armed and seeking easy dollars in sales of marijuana,” Baca said.

Baca said his detectives have found marijuana collectives buying from cartel sources and selling to people in large amounts. In the triple slaying case, two of the dead men did business with at least four dispensaries.

A man charged Wednesday with capital murder in the slayings confessed to the crime during an interview with detectives, investigators said.

Harold Yong Park, 31, told investigators he previously bought and sold marijuana from two of the men and that a dispute erupted when he came to the West Hollywood apartment Thursday evening, where the victims were shot to death.

Sheriff Lt. Pat Nelson said Pirooz Moussazadeh and Bernard Khalili had bought high-grade medical marijuana from local pot dispensaries -- some in L.A. and two in West Hollywood -- and then resold it. In this case, Park had stolen 4 to 5 pounds of high-grade hydroponically grown marijuana after killing the trio.

The third man killed, Shahriar Moussazadeh, was not involved in the drug deal and was a man in the wrong place at the wrong time, Nelson said.

He said Park did not bring enough money to the deal to buy the drugs he wanted. But detectives are not certain when he decided to kill the men. Nelson said Park has a prior drug conviction and worked previously for a marijuana collective.

Park is expected to appear in a Beverly Hills court Wednesday on murder, robbery and burglaries charges. He is being held without bail. He was arrested Monday in Lomita after his license plate that had been entered into a wanted car database was spotted using a sheriff’s patrol car with an automatic license plate reader.

Meanwhile, the campaign to defeat Proposition 19 announced Wednesday that Baca and Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) will head up the effort to defeat the marijuana legalization measure on the November ballot.

I may be WAY OFF base here but the medicinal program in cali still seems very flawed. Each county can grow diffferent amounts, etc.
To legally grow you have to have the license of each card holder. How do the dispensaries get their product? From growers who are growing under peoples cards?

Then you got people like krunchbubble who seem to be following the state law and the cops piss it away.

If they start treating medical MJ like a true prescription drug, the better all would be IMO.

Joe Blow starts a company, gets a license to produce 100 pounds every months, controls deliveries to dispensaries etc.

Just like alcohol, tobacco, and prescription drugs. Nobody is killing each other over those items, at least not at the upper levels.

The program has too much gray area IMO

This is exactly what the LA City Council was hoping would happen!!
There was almost a thousand Dispensaries in LA, and there was never anything major, as far as robberies and killings...because there was room for everybody--
Then they slash that number down to almost nothing...and BAM!! Now we have ppl fighting over who will be the "Ones"--
One of my friends who is in competition with another D, got his place torched...knowing it was the "Other Guy"...oh, and even with video of the person doing it, somehow the Arson Case is still not solved--
It is a simple "Cause & Effect" thing--
I bet if they did the same thing to Liquor Stores...closed all but 40 or 50...you would see the same thing going on!!
This is a planned assault by Steve Cooley, to get everything Cannabis in an uproar...set the stage for violence, welcome in the Cartels, and keep us all fighting each other!!
That way it will be easier to make us out as Violent Criminals, and anywhere that sells Cannabis as a Den for such Criminals--
I am not normally into the "Conspiracy" stuff...but this seems pretty transparent--

I cannot fathom the common sense disconnect that chief Baca and Feinstein appear to be having. THE ONLY THING CREATING VIOLENCE IS CANNABIS ILLEGALITY. Shame on civilians who have no direct interest in cannabis to believe the BS those two are spouting. Cannabis illegality is not good for anything except keeping prices artificially high and police/prison guards working.

They cry "Look at all this cannabis related violence", and then suggest keeping cannabis illegal in the same breath. I'll go hit the bench press, and then punching bag to vent my anger productively.

This is why we cannot let cooley win AG of California.

You know what....this is NOTHING BUT PROPAGANDA!!!!

You name one industry that HASN'T been infiltrated by criminals and low-lives and I very well may have to stop growing.

Last time I checked the score boards, Wall Street has screwed WAYYYYYYY more than any cannabis affiliate could even possibly conceive.

Corruption exists where ever there is excessive money to be made. THAT is why it is so monumentally important, for those of use that remain as a COUNTER-culture, to start paving the way...to start speaking up...to start making a difference! How long can we sit back and expect the results we desire...the results medical patients need...WITHOUT BEING PERSONALLY AND INTIMATELY INVOLVED.

Shut up...or do something. The time was yesterday....

More banks are robbed than dispensaries. But we don't go closing banks.
