Shelter Logic Green House experience?

I'm curious if anybody had used these greenhouses & if so what are your experiences... good & bad?


I just ordered a 10x20x8 due to the price (~$380 shipped) & the good reviews I've read.

Will I need additional equipment to anchor this baby down for possible high winds?

How often will the canopy need to be replaced under normal use?

I plan on adding cables corner to corner on the sides and back walls to stiffen the structure a bit.

Hopefully they last longer than their garage packages.

I have yet to have one of their skins last any longer than 2yrs.

I mounted mine on a 8x8 frame anched down with 3ft lengths of re-bar driven into it.

It still shakes like a MOFO when the wind gusts to 50-60km/h

I read a couple reviews that the users said they hold up in the wind if anchored well.

Wind is my main concern in my location.
I get gusts up to 60mph once in a while.
Luckily I have a small stand of trees to help keep the wind up high.

Wondering how well these take the snow as well.
I get some but not a lot typically.

I just received my tent yesterday.
I had some issues n my order was delayed.
Had I gotten it last week it would be standing in a foot of snow. Now I have to wait for the snow to melt again.

I can't wait to get this thing standing. I got girls a waiting for a good home.

bump, ordered a couple, just now hearing they might not let in enough light tried to cancel and was told its too late.

I can ship them back when they get here but wanted to hear some opinions on them, and see if I should just stick with them.

Paid 320/ea for 10x20, ordered 2 so don't want them to be a waste of money. Not really got time for DIY right now either.

Just a suggestion. If you are worried about wind. I wouldn't rock one. It's a tiny bit of work but why not bend your own hoop house out of 1 3/8th top rail. One of those cheap diy benders makes perfect bends. Bang ground posts made out of 1 5/8th posts. Use 3/4 or 1 inch emt for the perlins. Tek screws to put it together. That's what the professional store bought kits use but you can get it all from home depot minus the 50$ bending tool you have to buy online. It sounds complicated but it's sooo easy and the bending tool has great instructions for the whole thing so easy a cave man can do it. Built a 12x36 in a day before.
If it must be shelter logic, still bang in ground posts and throw some tek screws in it. or it will just fly away Use a bunch of emt for bracing if it can't handle the wind. I am in norcal. We got decent weather here but had a shelter logic that ended up in a tree. No joke. Totally crushed the plants first.

After two seasons of use the cover ripped & the frame was bent in a heavy wind storm.
The frame is designed to be shipped easily & that compromised it's structural integrity.

Next greenhouse will come from farmtek or I'll do as mentioned above & build a hoop house.

Or I'll get my piece of land and build a permanent greenhouse/living space like the one I've been getting ideas from near CO Springs.

How much was total materials cost for that 12x36?
How long are the 1 and 5/8th posts before they are bent?

Lastly, is there any way to use those benders without a picnic table or giant large flat wood surface?

Thanks. Been thinking about building one of these for a minute. Don't have a picnic table to attach it to for bending though.

You can do it as cheap or as pro as you want. Cost depends on what kind of plastic, end walls and other stuff. I suggest doing it cheap and then upgrading when you get money. The good frame is what counts.
For 12x36 with 4ft spacing between ribs(that's the standard) is 10 hoops.
20 pieces of top rail: 172$ from home cheapo. (Ribs)
Perlins or if 3/4 emt: 20$
Ground posts: about 50$
Box of tek screws. ??? Not sure really
Plastic: you could do 1 year uv protected 6mil pretty cheap or you could spend a fortune.

My 15k auto dep kit from emerald kingdom uses the same 1 3/8 top rail. Almost all kits do.

A level surface insures a perfect bend. You can do without but it will take a little more skill for it to be perfect. A big folding table would work, back of pickup. Couple saw horses and a sheet of plywood. Use your kitchen table. Doesn't need to be giant

How long are the top rail pieces before bending? I'm seeing 10' online, but I thought there was larger ones.

No. It's 10.5 feet you want. It takes 2 pieces to make a 12 ft wide rib or 3 pieces for a 20 ft wide. They also make 21 foot lengths but they are hard to bend straight.
Usually 10.5 lengths in the pro kits also. They usually don't get longer then 10.5 until you get into the 30 foot wide kits

MJP, I just ordered the same size GH from Farmtech. Double layer roof with propane furnace. I have a 18" x 24" x 24' beam I'm putting under the north side. The front back and south sides I'm using rail road ties up to the 24"hieght. I will have plenty of weight to anchor it down and more room for my sativas. This will be my first grow in a GH. I have been trying to learn all I can. I'm fortunate to have a friend who works at a nursery year round and is an expert on GH growing. I have frequent sustained winds of 40+ and gusts in the 60's frequently. The tech I spoke with said it will handle the winds just fine. He said I would get four years from the outer covering. I'm sure that means replace it after three years. I will upgrade covering at a later time. With flowering times of 20 weeks on a couple of my ladies. I will only be attempting one grow a year. Peace
