Well here is my growthread, it will be slow for the first few weeks, waiting on another to germ, but here is the first one.

These are 3 days old. This is #1 Very robust, but it could be due to the soil. I bought the fox farms ocean forrest for them. The sf/bb are in wormcastings/sphangum peat/ perlite mix.

Here's #2 The tap root was sticking out about 10 hours after their little heads popped through the soil.

Well that concludes this weeks updates. If you think you might know the problem with the first one I am all ears. But I do believe it as underwatering. I waited 4 days in between watering her, and she didn't grow much, I used alot of perlite in her mix, so I am going to try watering every other day unless someone else has some good info.

1st it is over -watered.You can tell by the algae growing on top of the soil.The PH is also off.This is why I hate using cups for starter plants.Although I to have to use them on occasion,I always pop many,many holes in the cup to make up for their slow drying out.In those cups you need 5 -10 holes on and around the bottom and several on the sides to allow the cup to dry out faster.The key to rapid growth in soil is wet and dry as fast as you can make it happen.The faster your containers dry out,the faster your plants will grow because they are getting large quanities of oxegen from the soil not being so wet so long.
Your seedlings will take off as soon as they start recieving more O2 to the roots.
The yellowing may also be due to the PH being off in the soil,but I would fix the holes in the cups first and see if that solves the problem.Pot5s are less prone to this problem because they are shorter and in turn dry faster because of a thinner layer of soil for O2 to penetrate.The holes on the sides of the cups has solved this problem completely for me when using these containers.I use a soldering gun to rapidly melt the holes in my cups.It works very well and is very fast.Once it gets hot it will make holes as fast as you can move it from spot to spot.In the cups you are using I would put 5 on the bottom,5 around the sides directly on the bottom of the cup and 5 more half way up the side in the middle of the cup.This should be plenty and will let them dry every 2 to 3 days.

Just noticed the sick one is in a black pot,,,,hummm,,,still you can see the algae indicating that there is too much water and you can still put a few side holes to help with drying out.

What nutrient percentages are on the soil that they are planted in? My poor seedlings got yellow real quick, and I lost several germ'd seeds due to hot soil(even the .18-.06-.23 or whatever it is). I also had 400wMH on them from the get go, and that stunted them and caused some patches of yellow to develop.


Good luck with the grow! Capt. Crip seems to know what he's up to, and his genetic stock looks lovely as can be, I'll be lookin forward to testing some when I get my routine developed. I just crashed my first grow, due to soil, lights, and other rediculous issues I wont vent here, however, I learned a lot and it was on free/cheap seeds, so nothing financial.

P.S.: I also watered with tap water, and my water is WAY HARD, so it caused a mag lockout. Now I use rainwater, and the plants -love- it.!

The two blueberry/shiva's are in fox farms ocean forest, and they are doing perfect. but the two sf/bb are in a mix of earthworm castings, sphagnum peat moss, and perlite. In a 3-2-2 ratio. or around that. I'm not for sure. but it has to be the mix. Because the other two are doing fine. I also have a g13 in that same mix and it is yelowing and the codyledons are yellow. So somethings up with the mix. but I don't want to try to transplant because i'm afraid I'll kill them.

They are probably staying too wet because of the sphagnum moss. Capt. or anyone else if you have suggestions, I'm all ears.

I agree in the mix then, but not too sure what to do about it, moving them wont be too bad, I transplanted my seedlings into nice soil when they were relatively young. You could also try flushing the soil, using a gross amount of water.....

Wait til someone more advanced moves in and guides you better

I do not think it would hurt to transplant. If the soil you are using is too rich.....it will hurt it anyhow. When it comes to watering my soil plants...I wait until the container is SUPER light and dry...almost feels empty........not to the point of wilting .just really thirsty. Like the Capt'n said.........from one extreme to the next as fast as you can. Promotes major growth rates!!

Just like hydro.....oxygen is your friend.

Yeah, I definately liked hydro, but they turned male and had a problem with root rot. So I don't know if I shoudl try that again. PLus soil I can leave for a few days. I watered yesterday, now I am not going to water until I see them begging for it, hopefully the growth will accelerate because it is very slow/non existent right now. Thanks for the replies.

ok, I don't know what it is, but soil won't be my friend no matter what. I try and try, but ohh well. I switched one sf/bb, and one bb/shiva over too hydro. so this thread will be no more. i will try to reopen it in hydro, once I get my camera back. Thanks for trying guys, but I bought a moisture meter, wait until it reads 2 on the meter, which is means really dry, and then soak them and they still don't seem to get any better, so I think it is best if I just give up. i don't want to waste these genetics.

If I would have been in hydro i would already be flowering, instead i am waiting on them to hit there 3rd set of leaves, it's rediculous, I am terrible, I am so pissed, that I don't know how to water them. Ohh well, Thanks again for everyone who tried to help.

thats a shame man. I burned up a lot of plants with a bad problem, and stunted the two survivors in seedling mode for a month and a half. I put them in clean unfertilized soil, and now I'm using a Promix solution.
