Hello. I have read that you should wait to take clones from a plant until it is sexually mature. What is the reason for this? Won't they flower anyway under 12/12? Some people grow 12/12 from seed with success. It seems similar to me, so what is the reason to wait 6-8 weeks to take clones? Thanks.

The only reason to wait for me would be to be sure of a female clone..I have taken them off very young plants,as soon as a big enough branch. And off budded plants..good luck
hi...you could take clones as soon as the plants have enough branches like paladin said. keep them under veg lighting regimen & flower the moms. If you don't make seeds, toss the clones that were cut from males (& hermas). Never forget to keep data so you could remind this clone comes from that mom etc...all this is very common grow knowledge...do more reading & search function is your friend....
Thanks for the respnses guys. I have done a ton of reading and researching and maybe I need to be more specific. I am referring to growing from seed and everything I have read has instructed to wait to take clones until the mom is sexually mature at 6-8 weeks. If the only reason is to determine sex, well that's not worth waiting for. The clones will tell you that soon enough. Cheers.
true this will but your takeing chances of unsexed clones if they are male you just opened space up in your flower erea. your plant count and expected harvest numbers have also gone down.
personally i allways wait untill plants have showen sex then i mark plants {A-B-C-D } so on so forth the clones i also mark from which plant. this being because not all plants from seed are equal, you'll experince slight differances or major ones. some may look bomb diggity but be nasty.
mark the plants take clones mark them flower out the donors and choose from there which is better for your needs and run with that. this helps to insure you run the better clones from the better plant
