Sexing before scrog

So the seeds I bought are straight run and I won't have any way of knowing their sex until after I flip them, the problem is that I wanna do a scrog table and I would be really bummed if I filled up part of my screen just to find out its a male plant. I'm a pretty new grower so I dunno if I really wanna risk re-vegging them on my limited knowledge and killing everything, so is it going to be too late to scrog after flipping and waiting to sex them, or does anyone have any system they could enlighten me to?

its pretty easy to wait until they show sex. they will do this quicker if you keep them in a smaller pot - but dont let them get too rootbound. as soon as you know then set up your table, up-pot and start scrogging them.

if you are vegging them up fairly big then another way is to take a clone of each and root them in 12/12 light. they should then show sex fairly quickly and you can then scrog the seed plants that are girls

Cool man that's good advice I hadn't even thought to sex the clones.. and by waiting for them to show sex, are you referring to looking for pre sex signs while still in veg, or waiting until they show real sex parts while in flower and THEN starting the scrog

As soon as they hit a few days of 12/12 they will flip if they haven't already. I always veg to preflower even though I use fem seeds. I have 2 reg bubba kush seeds that were freebies and one showed male, one female. Its always best to veg until pre-flower if you can, it usually takes less than 40 days unless I am really mistaken.

If I flip them to 12/12 until they sex then cull out the males and go back on 24/0 what should I expect? Is it difficult to do?

And also does anybody that happens to read this know of a really good guide to pre-sexing the plants, Ive looked at a few different threads and the pics never seem to show a big difference between males and females

Females form a single calyx right at the joints. Two little hairs will pop out. No hairs is no good

IMO you should clone everything first, sex the plants you cloned from and keep the clones that are female. Then scrog the clones that you know are female.

I've decided I'll just flip the lights to be sure for this first run, gonna try to put a few back on 24 hours of light after sex is showing a week or so into flower. If that goes well I'll prob end up putting them all back into veg to get them into the screen

They should show sex in veg, if not then they are not mature yet. If your height limited I undrstand but once a plant is mature, at least the females, they will show sex at every internode with a single flower, pistil on females.

If you cut clones and sex but dont root them you can know sex just as quick and not confuse the mother just remember that unrooted clones dont need or want strong light. Reveg sucks ive done it alot and never on purpose always because I get failed clones after putting the moms in flower.

Negatives to reveg

Delay between veg and flower and flower back to veg can be a month or longer

Massive stretch as the plant gets a stretch phase now and when the real flower starts

Weird leaf growth

Excessive branching, flowers turn to branches and not in a good way you end up removing most of them

Normally female plants may throw out a few male flowers from the confusion pollenating itself and others.

Like everyone else here has said, just veg them into the SCRoG. After 4-6 weeks depending on your pot size you should be able to tell sex.

If you have a male, just kill it and them veg the female longer to fill in the space of a male.

Easy.

has anyone said veg them into the scrog? i would never scrog a plant until i knew what sex it was.

if they are vegged up pretty big and not showed sex, then flip them to 12 /12 and watch them very closely so you can sex them asap.
when you have sexed them, dont put them back to veg but repot immediately and scrog from then in. you will find there is a fair bit of growth between them first showing sex and actually going into flower and budding up.

thats what i usually do with plants from seed.

You said straight run seeds so you have to expect males, or in other words you can scrog but they need their own screens so you can remove the males.

I wouldn't bloom a plant and then take it back to veg. You are MUCH better off cutting a clone and putting it into 12/12 immediately after it has roots to determine the sex of the mother. As has been stated after putting a plant into bloom and then returning it into a vegetative state will only hinder your growth and cause other innumerable problems. Cut a clone, root it, sex it, and then scrog the females. That's your best bet.

Thanks for all the input guys, seems like there are quite a few options I have going on here. I'm not super stoked about doing the clone method because of how many plants there are at the moment and trying to keep track of which clone is which.... The main concern in my mind was that starting a scrog after the flip would be too late, VG you are saying its not? That's great news; I figure I can flip the lights, toss the males, pull out a mom for each strain and scrog the rest. They are all about 10-16 inches tall with tons of branches at the moment so about 1 more week and I can flip them into flower. It has been my understanding that you would typically start scrog around 8" in the veg cycle, is that correct?

This is a very bad idea. Your plants will look deformed and will suffer in the yield department.
Just WAIT until they show pre-flowers. From seed.....a plant will veg for about 3-4 weeks and will show sex automatically.
No need to flower them out then re-veg them.
No need to take clones and put them at 12/12.
Just grow them out and top/train them as if they were all females until they show there sex at week 3-4. Cull your males...then Scrog your females. Simple easy.
