SEXING - 24hrs dark period - any downsides?

I've never used the "go dark for 24hrs" method to get my plants to show sex early. I just wait until they do it naturally, because I have a healthy fear of causing stress and hermaphroditism. Maybe i'm a little over-paranoid.

My question is: to those who have used this technique, or use it regularly -- have you found that this technique can cause plants to herm later? or maybe have you found that when you've used this technique, more plants have herm'ed than usual, or are more prone to herm?

I would love to be able to use this technique. It would save a lot of time, maybe even months in the course of a year. I'm hoping to hear from some people who have done this a lot and have some real experience to draw from.

Have used this technique many times before. I always used clones and put them in darkness for 24-36 hrs. Never seen any negative effects from doing this.

for different reasons i sometimes have light off or on longer than "should"

never had ANY herming that didnt herm before

it does speed up the hormones

My experience with messing with lighting has caused hermies, although that was the result I was looking for. Never have grown on 16/8 then put them on a 24hour dark cycle and back to 16/8.

Its been a few years too so my memory is a little fuzzy.
