Does anyone know if monagamy is a common practice in the animal world?

Like with apes even... do apes use sex for different purposes?

Or is sex purely to recreate and have a family...and the male ape will stay by the females side to ensure that the kids are born?

well i know there are quite a species that stay monogamous and others that have sex for more than procreation.. those frisky dolphins for one. but i thought it'd be better to find an article for ya lol..

Beavers mate for life. But there are very few animals that are truly monogamous. Many, many more are just made to reproduce.

from what i understand, dolphins don't enjoy sex.
a group of males will hold a female dolphin prisoner and gang rape her to ensure that one set of their genes will be passed on.
them enjoying sex is a common misconception.
i saw it on the discovery channel.
it's science.

That's wild, I saw on Discovery Channel that they do enjoy sex. They also engage in homosexual sex occasionally.

Also, I've heard that dolphins will hump people while they are swimming with them. It was on King of the Hill, therefore it's science Hehe, just messing with ya.
