Setup for first timer

Hi, this will be my first set up

I've never grown myself. I would like some of your wisdom before I purchase everything and get started.

The place I intend to grow will either be a shed or just in an open room, which, will not be sealed off too well.
Pros of the shed - it won't be in my house
cons - probably wont be tall enough so it'll be tight on space, harder to keep cool(no hvac), and harder for electricity
House pros - larger and taller space
cons - light will leak, more co2 needed, and just skethcy.

So I plan to have a single tray (8'x4') of about 18 plants.
Soil base I plan to use is rockwool. I'm going for the 8"x 8"x 8".

Lighting is going to be two - 1000W-HPS lights coming out of a Gavita Pro 1000w E-series. This comes with a ballast.

Lighting question - Should I have it set to 120v or 240v? and why?

I also plan to get an Gavita EL2 controller.

A Titan saturn 5 will control my co2 regulator, humidity, and one fan.
I'm not 100% on the product and how it works, but i need something to test co2 output and humidity.
could I go without this, if so, how?

I'll have a co2 tank with a regulator (of course). The hose will be hooked up to a fan that will be above the plants facing down(Ive been told co2 sinks)
Will this work? and if there is a better way please, let me know.

For water:
Reverse osmosis

Other- De humidifier and humidifier. A fan not including the one that would be hooked up to the titan(if i get it)

Some other questions

Will a house HVAC do the job or do i need to go more industrial?
Do I have enough fans? I'll have 2
Should I grow a couple mother plants and take clones off of them or should i just use seeds?(I'm unable to get clones)

I plan to spend a little money but trying to keep in under 3000.
Altogether this will be around 2500

Id skip on the gavita unless you have over 8 feet to spare. You are going to need 30~ inches between your canopy and your gavita. unless you turn it down...

I wouldnt count on the house HVAC in most situations. your grow room will put off significantly more heat then the rest of the house, either your house will be hella cold or your room will be too hot. You might be able to skirt around the AC with 2 wall fans and a 6" inline fan to a 36" can filter pulling a bunch air in from the outside on a temp regulator. Id do lights on at night time so your outside air is cooler...

Dehumidifier, 70 pt and if you can, run the hose back to your res.

Id say mother/clone if you can. Seeds are sparatic and once you get that super dank strain you love you will be maaaad if you didnt clone it. Unstable strains will give you quite a few phenos so good luck finding it again in a seed pack.

Hydro Logic is the way to go for RO

Proper term for your 'soil' would be 'medium'. soil is a medium, as is coco, lava rock, rockwool, ect.

240 because it saves amperage on your out put. Make sure you know what your doing in this field, like making sure both legs of your power gets even draw...

Good Luck!

First off I would like to thank you for taking the time to respond.
I'm fortunate enough to have a cathedral ceiling. So i'll have about 10' to use
I'm not actually planning to use a canopy i've seen a lot of you guys using them. At my friends grow room he has quite a few of what i call trays (8' x 3' plastic tray of about 18plants) he doesnt use these (canopy). Given the fact he has a warehouse just for growing. So he has to control a larger enviorment which I can understand why he doesnt. Also , he's not as knowledgable as I would hope having so many plants.
I'll have to do some rewiring in the house to make sure it doesn't trip a breaker since you state to use 240v.
I'm going to invest into the dehumidifier 70pt sounds like a good idea. I dont want to have to run home to dump all the time haha.
I may give the inline fans a try i'm coming from a cold state so I'm worried ill have to work with some extra heaters during the day and portable a/c's at night(if i'm going to be turning the lights on at night). since i dont have the money to invest a couple grand on an hvac system (yet at least)
On to the gavita lights, I've read they only need to produce 4000 btu's to maintain tempature so in theory would a 10,000 btu portable a/c do the job?

Hello,
I would suggest going with the house setup if possible at all, mainly because of the power issues. If you have a dryer outlet near the room that is an easy way to plug in a 30 amp box to the dryer outlet. The 30 amp i have has 4 x(240v) and 2x(120) and the whole box runs on a timer.

If you have two windows that are accessible in the room the best bet would to place an inline fan attached to a tmp dne controller (turns the fan on once it hits set temperature) as an exhauston one window and a hepa filter on the other window. That way when it gets too hot at night the fan kicks on and pulls cold air through the room. You can then plug in a basic heater with a thermostat to turn on during the day. If you arent able to do that you can build an ac box I learned alot here https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?threadid=95491. 1 12,000 btu ac should cut it.

For the controller, most dehueys have % settings so you dont need a controller. you can get a cheap controller for your co2 regulator. They also have co2 tubing that you can hook to the regulator to help spread it around more evenly.

You should check the ppm of your water first to make sure a RO system is even needed.

I hope that helped.

Yeah those Gavitas are some exceptionally bright lights! Also they are some exceptionally HOT lights. When I size my places for Gavitas I allow 7k BTU per bulb to be safe.
